Latest school shooting

This is so sad, tomorrow is the one year anniversary for the Sandy Hook school shooting.

Twenty Little Angels Gone To Heaven
Oh my, I am very saddened by today's event
At Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut,
another school shooting with twenty six dead
What is happening in America?
What is going on in people's head?
Colorado, Oregon and Connecticut,
these shootings signal no state is safe
Texas, Arizona, and Wisconsin
Leaving children alone in a school room,
with only one teacher is very unsafe
When will schools get the message
there needs to be security present-
twenty four seven!!!
Wake up parents- protect the children
twenty little angels gone to heaven
My only solace they went to sing for my mother
to sing songs of love and to comfort- for the anniversary
of her passing december fourteenth, twenty eleven
Twenty little angels have gone to heaven

The past several days the left wing has been using opportunity after opportunity to bring up Sandy Hook. Still dancing on the bloody floors over those tiny bodies.
It wouldn't surprise me if they are high fiving each other and it also wouldn't surprise me if the shooter was inspired by the left wing media.
Watching CNN and watching the lines of kids with hands behind their heads being frisked.
It that the pose of a free people?

Many of you on this forum know that I am a teacher. A few of my colleagues were talking today (unbeknownst of this latest tragedy) and spoke of how insecure our school is. One teacher asked me point blank, knowing my training in hand-to-hand combat, firearms, and Pressure Point and Control Techniques, what I would do if there were an active shooter. I was very frank and earnest with her. I told her how the desks would be turned over so the students could hide behind some cover. I told her how I would grab a blunt weapon and wait by the door. I told her of the 3/8" rope I have to rappel out the window if need be.

I wrapped it up by saying, "In other words, no matter how much society wishes to force us into becoming victims, I will do my damnedest to never be one and to show my students how life is worth fighting for even if our district mandates that we fight at a disadvantage."

She knew that I meant being unarmed. She was speechless for moment and then processed her words carefully and said, "We perform fire drills each month and yet in 50 years there hasn't been one death due to fire in any school building in the US. However, we seem to turn a deaf ear to the fact that so many kids are being slaughtered with firearms. I wish people like you (meaning me) could or would start carrying." Now a year ago this woman was a flaming liberal and never would have suggested a firearm in the school.

I looked hard at her, and said, "I wish there were many more in this building who were carrying right along side of me." She had nothing to add.

Is there some point were we, as law-abiding gun owners, want to smack people who leave guns where bugs can get to them? This ongoing problem will eventually destroy gun rights. Every gun used in every crime, at the start of its life, was legally owned. So how do they get into the bug's hands? other than the one in my pocket they're all locked-up.

Hi BC1 Eventually I hope we have some new laws in place. Your firearm is your responsibility, (I believe we all agree so far) and it is a huge responsibility to maintain it and keep it in a safe and secure location. So if you are the careless one, who left the firearm out for the child, to shoot up students and faculty at school. Then your ... should be the one going to prison along with the delinquent child!!! So if you have a missing weapon, then my advice is to call the police right away, if you do not wish to be held responsible.

How many other innocent kids will be maimed or killed before our own criminal administration will wake up?

Superprincess, there are already thousands of laws already on the books dealing with firearm crime. Surprised?

The town where I lived and graduated years ago has armed staff and teachers in the district. The protectors have been thoroughly trained in these types of scenarios. They protect their kids. They give a damn about their kids. They are not going to let some madman use the school's gun free zone status to stand by and watch as the horror of murders unfold in front of them, as so many unprotected schools have, and will.

If our government really gave a damn about our kids, they would allow properly trained personnel in schools across the nation.

But no. They are going to try to enact some ridiculous "feel good" legislation that does absolutely nothing to make our kids safer, and punishes law-abiding citizens.

I feel for the injured students. I feel for the parents, teachers, kids, and anyone else exposed to mentally-ill murderers.

Has anyone heard the adage, "the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun"?

That doesn't matter to this administration. Their stupidity has preceded them before this shooting, and will certainly precede them for the next, or the next.

Protect our kids in school! Quit preaching from the coffins of children about "gun control", get off your asses, and protect our kids!

I can't understand how peoples guns get stolen. When I'm not home everything is in a safe. I have what I need with me. Everyone should at least have a lock box they can secure to the floor. If for no other reason than not wanting to lose your favorite heater.

Interesting article here. Seems these districts agree with you.

This one always gets me... same thing every shooting... "In Connecticut, a recent report could not pinpoint a motive for the rampage by Adam Lanza..." Motive? You want a motive? What happened to frigging nuts?

Hi Riderbike, I am not surprised in the least. But you have to admit, something needs to be done with parents who leave their weapon accessible for their teenager to murder innocent victims. It doesn't necessarily have to be a parent, it just has to be the owner of the weapon, could be the neighbor next door. If you do not agree they should go to jail, then you are entitled to your opinion. Yes, if you own a firearm, it comes with great responsibility. Yes I agree with you something needs to be done quickly.

Headed in the right direction! Glad to read that article. Thanks!

I'm all for stiffer penalties for parents' gross neglect. I absolutely agree. However, some kids have an uncanny knack for mischief and defeating cheap safes. I have 4 safes, 3 of them portable, and I have no kids. Going to keep an ear to the tracks on this one, as to how this kid actually got that shotgun. I bet negligence was involved somewhere.

Hi BC1, to me it seems like more and more people are being careless. I know where mine is 24 hours a day.

Hi telpinaro, this is what I have been saying the whole time. Ultimately it is up to the parents to protect their children, not the government. Yes this officer has really great ideas, but still the parents need to step in and help any way they can.

Its not just regular people that "loose" firearms. There are Gun dealers who get ripped off too - stores broken into / safes cracked - guns stolen.. A dealer I have bought my last 4 firearms from has been hit 3 times that I know of. once just 2 years ago - despite safes/locks/etc- 100 some guns was stolen. Prior to that about 6 years ago they got hit and lost 200 some guns or so. They also had a situation involving an employee that was embezzling firearms - he would write them off as "sold" and then walk out the door with em. (since then they have implemented a 2 man sign of policy on all gun sales 1 of which is a store owner)

Granted - this dealer works with local cops / etc in their area - and has a very good reputation, and all of the guns/etc was recovered and the idiots who did those deeds are in prison/etc..

You also have to factor in the friends/family of people who have guns stolen. Sometimes there is a shady family member, who steals em, or a guy/girl you might consider a friend.. **** happens - its the real world.

Having a safe doesn't mean your safe, having a lockbox doesn't mean your secure. A screwed down lockbox in your car can be ripped off with a crowbar in a few seconds.. due to the thin wall construction of most of the low-end boxes. Also - the locks on them can be picked or drilled out - sure they claim they have super protection ability's - but any lock can be defeated with time / effort.

the longer someone has physical access, the longer they have to break it open and pilfer the goodies of any safe or lockbox. which is why there has been a rash of ATM thefts(taking the whole dang box) over last couple years. Physical access over time = payoff.

Lets say a friend of yours, you normally trust with your life, knows about your safe, this person wouldn't hurt you - but he does go to a bar - talks about it to some friends of his, gets overheard by some bad guy - bad guy uses the opportunity to find out where you live.. you go away for a vacation, maybe a weekend, maybe a week?...
During that time, the crooks break in - steal everything you own and crack the safe too.. Poof guns are gone!..

No matter how good you are, how diligent you are - you can never be 100% secure from criminals. Even government buildings with millions in taxpayer dollars and armed guards still have problems with security..

How odd that the pack of new gun laws that the Democrats rammed through on us last spring couldn't prevent today's shooting. I guess they will have to come after our shotguns now. At least we won't be hearing Evie Hudak telling high school kids to piss themseves as a way to get out of deadly situations like what happened today at AHS. These Democrats running this state are complete morons.
