Lasers for Springfield XDS .45 ACP

I'm looking into laser options for my new XDS (sweet weapon btw). It looks like Crimson Trace will be coming out with a LaserGuard in December (Laser Sight for Springfield XD-S LG-469 | Official Crimson Trace Lasergrips) but I'm wondering if a green RailMaster might be better. I've read that green lasers are much easier to see in daylight and I can pick one up now. I'm going to be carrying concealed so I'm not sure just how much bulk the RM is going to add. Does anyone have experience with the RailMaster (or green lasers for that matter) who'd like to offer up an opinion? There are also the LaserLyte sites to consider (Link Removed). The LaserLytes don't add any bulk at all but I've read that they are lower quality than the CTCs.
 
I have many CTC lasers and am waiting for the XDS Laserguard. With the rail mounts it's tough to find a holster. I tried several with my XDS 45 and rail CTC laser and light. They are both back on my home defense guns. The XDS goes with me in the daytime until the Laserguard shows up.
 
As far as Green Lasers go, they are much easier to see. They are also a bit more pricey! More and more choices everyday. Personally I prefer green, as I also have aging eyes!
 
Depends on where you live and where you carry. Green doesn't do well in cold and they dissipate a lot of heat (transferred to the gun, you, or the air). They use way more power than red because they are converting frequencies. I understand the old eyes, just not a fan. My batteries, even though I use the lasers for my classes, last me a year. Doesn't sound like green will be the same. Don't forget the 'fear factor.' I'm not sure a bad person seeing a green dot on them will have the same impact as the red dot. Maybe once they start using them on TV :-)
 
I love crimson trace. But in my opinion on a weapon like that I would try to get one that replaced the guide rod. That way it wouldnt change the appearance of the gun at all. Just my opinion
 
I have two guns that I carry , a CZ 75 and a P-220 with CT red laser grips and with a fresh battery the red shows even in the late afternoon. No issues bolstering, it's all on the grip.

From what I have heard,after shooting a lot of rounds the lens gets carbon,or powder residue on it and then the beam gets distorted,I know a guy that sent a couple back cause the beam went crazy,he said he tried his best to keep the lens clean,this was awhile ago and maybe they fixed that issue. I agree with you though,that's the best way to go.

When shooting the laser lens gets dirty just like the rest of the gun. All lasers have this problem; the closer the laser is to the muzzle, the more crud it picks up. When you clean the gun you need to clean the laser lens (even the grip mount ones). CT includes two swabs for that purpose, not sure if the other makers do as well (Laserlyte did not with my grip mount Judge laser). Cleaner ammo helps, but at some point, like before you carry your gun for personal protection, you need to clean the laser lens. Clean your grips as well, they are picking up the same crud as the laser lens. Be careful what you clean with; removable grips and laser lenses are not metal or high carbon polymer gun parts.

The advantage of the guide rod laser or the replacement rear sight laser is that they do not change the profile and you can use any holster made for the gun, including the paddle Springfield includes with the XDS. I spend the extra $$$ to get a custom holster so profile is not an issue for me.

I personally had issues with a guide rod laser on a Glock 23 so I won't be using them again. It made cleaning the gun a real pain. I don't like the sight profile of the rear sight replacement when not using the laser. Others I'm sure have had good experiences with guide rod or don't mind the bigger rear sight.

Glad we have choices, the XDS 45 has become my default carry gun. 45 ACP, 'cause shooting twice is just silly.
 
I really don't understand completely the interest in under the muzzle mounted laser units. I have found for me the laser grip ( CT) work best and they do not change the feel of the gun and for me it is an improvement or no change. You will also need to have a holster that is designed to accommodate the barrel mounted unit where with a grip mounts laser you don't. I realize price can be an issue but you also get what you pay for with this stuff. A light perhaps is better than a laser there.
 
I have an XDs .45 (love it!) and just bought a Crimson Trace Laserguard. The website opticsplanet.com, also has a link to register for free batteries for life. I had a girlfriend with a LC9 with the laserguard, I was impressed with the unit and she shot very well with it. I sighted it in for her before we ever hit the range and it was spot on. I sighted the laser to where the sights were aiming. That turned out to be spot on.

I also just contacted Laser Max about their guide rod laser for the XDs. They not only don't make one, they have no plans currently to make one. So, I bought a laserguard at $159 with free shipping and free batteries for life. Works for me.
 
I put a viridian c5lr on my xds 45. Had to make my own holsters for it.

Is there any other company out there that makes guide rod lasers for the xds .45? Thats the kind of laser i am looking for to buy. Or is there a way you can get one custom made?

I have a lazerlyte on my XD40 and have had no problems with it other than wearing out batteries from practicing with it.

I heard just after purchasing mine that they didn't stand up to the punishment of recoil with how they are mounted and had a short life span. Mine has experienced several thousand rounds and is still functioning properly and has not lost it zero either. A lot of rounds were shot without the laser being on but it still suffered the recoils shock without adverse effect.

If I needed another for a new weapon it would be my choice considering my experience.
 
I have had a Crimson on a Ruger LC9 for about a year. It appears to be the same design and works nicely.
 
I use the Viridain C5L on my xdm 45. Fits on the rail. You can also purchase a holster for it that turns the laser on and off when taking out and putting back in.
