Not much information available yet, but CNN is already pushing gun control. According to Link Removed, the The Grand 16-Lafayette Movie Theater is posted.

Edit: From Link Removed:

OUR THEATRE PROHIBITS
...
• Possession of firearms or weapons of any kind regardless of whether openly orconcealed, with or without a permit
...

Another edit: "No Guns" signs have the force of law in Louisiana.

Just saw it on Yahoo! Sounds like the guy was looking for a particular target because a report says they saw him taking aim. But at this point, the story could change at a moments notice.

Watching CNN as well. Another wacko has killed 2, and injured multiple victims.
Then he knocks himself off. Why couldn't he have just killed himself!! On CNN its just so repetitive with the same questions and info. A lot of 'we need more gun laws' with guests and how the big 'O' is bent on passing more laws before he goes. More laws won't stop 99% of these shootings. They are saying "ban assault weapons", which don't exist in civilian semi-auto rifles. I feel awful for the victims, but if a CCP holder was in that theater, he/she could of stopped this shooter.'They' are going to push and push for more laws. .001% of non law abiding gun owners legally/illegally are going to infringe on our 2nd Amendment rights. Its awful all around, because of the loss of innocent life and then the ignorant law makers/public who think taking guns away for us, will stop the nuts from performing these despicable acts. It was handgun their saying. What law will stop someone hell bent on getting one. By the way, 25+ people have been killed in automobiles since this has happened. But that seems to be OK for whatever reason, but if the too is a gun to kill, people freak. You get my points.

I wonder where the gun will eventually appear to have come from....

The family of the man who killed two people and wounded nine others before killing himself at a crowded showing of "Trainwreck" showing said he was mentally ill and so violent that they needed police help to keep him away and removed his guns from their home, court documents show

Court documents from 2008 say family members of the theater shooter petitioned the probate court to have him involuntarily committed "because he was a danger to himself and others."

A judge issued the order, and John Houser was taken to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia.

My gf and I go to the dollar movie here quite a bit on weekends (it's $1.75 now to get in because of inflation ) and I often think how easy it would be for a terrorist or whacko to go to a movie and start shooting. I, atleast, go armed so would have a chance to defend myself if it happens here. The sad thing is - we have shootings and stabbings in the local news almost every night in Indianapolis. So, I guess it's just the mass shootings or police shootings that get media coverage.

I often wonder how long it will be before the terrorists figure out that they can spread terror far more easily by attacking the populace at large rather than attacking things such as military facilities or high profile targets that most often require them to breach some sort of security. Remember the panic when the beltway sniper attacks were occurring? Schools were closed and people were afraid to put gas in their cars. And that was just attacks from two untrained civilians. Imagine the panic a few well trained terrorists could cause if they started attacking the populace at large. They'll reach that point eventually, especially with the panty waist we've had in the White House for the past few years turning us into a nation of capitulation and appeasement. It's only a matter of time before the terrorists start attacking John Q. Citizen. That's what really concerns me.

Isn't that exactly what this mass shooting by a tea party nation blogger and right wing nut was? It appeared he planned to escape, much like the terrorists cowards who shoot abortion doctors or blow up federal buildings.

he Lafayette shooter went to a Alabama pawn shop and bought the gun. Looks like the pawn shop has the blood on their hands for these murders. They sold the gun to a man with a record of mental illness.

According to the ATF, he bought the gun legally: Lafayette theater shooter bought gun legally, police say.

"Houser was turned down for a concealed carry permit in 2006 because of apparent mental health issues and a previous arrest in Columbus, Georgia, for arson.

He was treated in 2008 and 2009 for mental health problems after his wife and other family members took out a temporary protective order against him for “extreme erratic behavior and has made ominous as well as disturbing statements.”"

And then he legally purchased a handgun in Alabama?

The NRA must be proud of itself: "
Alabama Governor Robert Bentley delivered a significant victory for Second Amendment rights when he signed into law comprehensive pro-gun reform legislation backed by the National Rifle Association (NRA)."

Right, it's the NRA's fault. From NRA-ILA | Alabama Governor Signs Comprehensive Pro-Gun Legislation:

House Bill 47 accomplishes the following reforms:

  • amends Alabama's unduly restrictive minor possession of pistols law;
  • repeals Alabama's duplicative and unnecessary pistol registration requirement;
  • narrows a prohibited facility's authority to ban firearms outside of the building; and
  • creates avenues for federally prohibited persons to seek restoration of firearm rights.

What does this have to do with the Lafayette shooter? Do you have anything to back up your claim or are you just trolling with your gun control agenda as usual. May be it was the FBI again, screwing up another background check. Link Removed

"Houser was turned down for a concealed carry permit in 2006 because of apparent mental health issues and a previous arrest in Columbus, Georgia, for arson.

2006 was 7 years before this was a shall issue state. The Sheriff back then could've denied for any reason or no reason at all, and he/she also could've personally known the family and denied on the basis of knowledge about his mental state. A Sheriff could still do that now under the "good cause" clause of the ~2 year old shall issue reforms.

He was treated in 2008 and 2009 for mental health problems after his wife and other family members took out a temporary protective order against him for “extreme erratic behavior and has made ominous as well as disturbing statements.”"

It's no secret that NICS is a farce. Passing a NICS check inside a store by one who is ineligible could just as easily be the fault of the g'vmt program, a lie on the 4473, or a combination thereof as a gun store worker doing something illegal. As such, it could legitimately be said that he bought the weapon having gone through the legal requirements, thus "he bought it legally." In any case, it had nothing to do with any laws in Alabama specifically.

The NRA must be proud of itself:

"Alabama Governor Robert Bentley delivered a significant victory for Second Amendment rights when he signed into law comprehensive pro-gun reform legislation backed by the National Rifle Association (NRA)."
And that is just a damn lie. The N-freakin'-RA fought against our efforts. The "reforms" had absolutely nothing to do with acquisition issues anyway since AL was already compliant with federal law (NICS etc.). The only issues addressed in the "reforms" were going from may issue to shall issue, and some minor tweaks to the disorderly conduct statute to make open carry easier and less dangerous for the law-abiding OC'er from cops looking for an illegitimate excuse to harass them.

As per usual, the truth comes in second behind your obsession with anti-2A and anti-Southern agenda.

Does anyone else find it amusing that the news is calling this a rampage? It sure is getting those lemmings riled up.

No. I was talking about terrorists. You seem to be in the wrong thread. This one isn't about abortions or federal building bombings. And since I'm sure you already know the Tea Party had nothing to do with this man, I'll just take that as more of your biased, unsubstantiated ramblings that gained you notoriety here.

I'm sure you're aware as we are that he isn't disqualified unless he's legally adjudicated as mentally incompetent. I can only assume that he wasn't, or that the state never reported it.
.
I'll ignore the rest of your post since it had no substance.

What does this have to do with the Lafayette shooter?
I'm guessing you aren't familiar with nogods. He posts lies, provocations or misdirections to irrelevant information whenever the truth doesn't serve his purposes.

TTAG got the wording precisely correct - The purchase was not legal because the purchaser lied on the 4473 about having been previously involuntarily committed. However, the sale was legal as the pawn shop FFL ran the NICS check as required, and NICS didn't manage to catch the lie on the 4473.

The whole NICS system is broken. In fact, it started out broke, as it has never verifiably worked to prevent or deter a single crime, and of the many thousands of lies, omissions and otherwise illegal attempts to purchase guns through law-abiding FFLs and/or rejections from being caught by NICS checks, only a fraction of a percentage point have ever been prosecuted. No one has anything to fear from NICS, least of all criminals. Actually, law-abiding citizens have much more to fear from NICS than criminals, because they can be denied on a mistake, and though they'll never be prosecuted for whatever issue they were mistakenly denied on, it is a time-consuming and (sometimes) costly process to get one's name removed from the list. Criminals know going in that they may be denied, so chances are they would never spend the time or money to get their names removed. Obviously, with the lack of prosecution for the felony of lying on the 4473, and the burden borne by LACs to get their names removed when mistakes happen, the law was never intended to work. It's nothing but a worthless hoop that LACs have to jump through with zero net gain to the safety of society at large. 'Murica. Ain't it grand?
