Ladies, help me change my wife's mind...????

Uncle Al
Ladies, my wife and I are 72, and too old to fight off an attacker. She's a bit heavy, and easy prey for hoodlums, and drives a nice looking truck. She was raised on a farm, and can shoot a rifle or small shotgun without a problem. She can also shoot her small .32 and our .380 pistol. However, she doesn't like it when I compel her to take along one of the pistols when she leaves the house. She doesn't have a CHL, but here in Texas it is legal for her to have a weapon in her truck as long as it is concealed. When she carries the pistol to her truck, she carries it like it was a dead mouse... dangling, between her thumb and index finger. I don't want her to be a victim, and as long as I'm with her, she won't be.
If any of you ladies have a convincing talk that might convince her to get a CHL, I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

Maybe you could try the fashion accessory tactic and buy her a nice CC holster for that pistol. She could break it in around the house.

I also recommend Cornered Cat | If you have to fight, fight like a cornered cat. they also have a facebook Lots of good information for women gun owners

Thanks for sharing this link. I've never heard of this site.

To the op, I wouldn't force the issue too much with your wife. That said, it wouldn't hurt to get a chl and she might feel more comfortable carrying with some additional instruction. I learned something new both times I took a cow course (once in Ohio, once in Arizona)

Being from Texas you might find this laughable but go to a self defense class with or or a CCW class. Maybe that will get her to carry.

Popping up all across the country are classes and clubs just for women. Sorry to say but often men just don't get the female angle and their comments can be downright rude and crude. Women often don't mentor women in the business world as they should but in this area, handling, shooting and caring of their gun, they really have been wonderful. The Well Armed Women website is setting up clubs all over. The first hour is all sorts of information, learning your gun, about ammo, cleaning, self defense and more. The next hour is shooting on the range and help from usually NRA instructors. Maybe she'd be comfortable in the all female group, we have girls just turning 21 and 80 year olds also. Sharing what holsters we have is nice to get a look up close and personal. A few heavy women showed how they use the belly band and the flashbang what works well. It's a better feeling looking at these items at the meeting than shopping in a store with people watching your every move. Maybe check to see if there is one locally to attend. When I go to these meetings my DH goes with me, he goes in to the shooting area while I visit and do my own thing.

That's the best suggestion I've had so far. I've emailed TWAW group, for info about how to get one started in our area. We know some women here that would be interested...
My wife's watched the Hupp videos that were suggested, but she's just not into getting a license to carry, and she still doesn't want to take one with her when I'm not going along. She does like for me to carry when we're out together.
If other women that she knows were involved in some club like the TWAW, she might just go for it. Thanks again for your post...
Al

Great, You and your wife are passing a wonderful life. In you family , your wife is king and you are mouse. I thinks so.

No comprende your first post... I thinks so.
My wife and I are living a wonderful life; for sure! In my family, my wife of 55 years is my "Queen"; whom I fell in love with the day after my 17th birthday. And I never once squeaked in my life. I know so.
Blessings, Al

There are some other wonderful women's shooting groups that might be established in your area. You might want to check into the A Girl and A Gun Club. There are chapters found all over Texas and many other states. Just go to the "Find a Chapter" and look up the closest one. The website is: A Girl and A Gun Women's Shooting League | Girl's Night Out at the Gun Range | Ladies' IDPA

She'll get to meet some of the most amazing women, get to shoot and have opportunities to address her fears with people who will understand those "girl" thoughts. We just came back from the 1st Annual Women's Shooting Conference and met some of the most amazing instructors including Kathy Jackson from the Cornered Cat.

Thanks, MDT, I checked your link, and they don't have any of these chapters in my part of Texas either. But I found a chapter in OKC, so I sent a link to my DIL and my granddaughters!
