Kory Watkins -- Friend or Foe?

I'm not sure how I feel about this open carry thing. Indiana is an Open Carry state, but I don't see anyone but police open carry in stores or on the street here. So I guess about everyone Conceal Carries. Having that element of surprise if a situation arises is a big plus and so to me concealing makes sense over carrying openly.

I did read somewhere that if someone is open carrying and police see them they will likely get stopped, questioned and maybe even harrassed a bit.

And I can see that a guy carrying a gun or rifle or several openly carrying in stores could be intimidating to the average person who doesn't own a gun.

I did live in Texas for awhile tho, and down there you folks like to carry rifles in your trucks rifle rack, so why not bring them into the stores as well. Up here, I don't believe I've ever seen a rifle in a truck rack even during hunting season, but I'm sure there must be a few out in the country who carry them that way.

I open carry pretty much 98% of the time. However, I open carry a pistol, in a holster and not a long rifle slung over my shoulder. I still think there is a world of difference. Not in the 2A rights sense but, in the sense of how the public views OC. I am never hassled, no one is ever intimidated and many knowingly nod, smile or even shake my hand declaring they are glad to see someone armed. Again, IMO long gun open carry is causing the uproar out of Texas. IMO

In Texas open carry isn't legal so carrying a long gun is a way some can protest the law. Carrying a long gun is legal. I agree that's a bit extreme. Carrying a pistol in an out side holster generally doesn't excite the sheep around us. Most will suspect you may be a detective and move on.

ok, so i kinda get it now since you mention open carry of handguns is prohibited in Tx. They're carrying the rifles to protest not being able to open carry handguns. and the mothers are protesting them carrying the rifles. Kind of a vicious cycle it seems.

I take it back, NOW I'm REALLY baffled. An hour after posting the above, I hear on the news that the Indianapolis chapter of MOMS is pressing Indiana Kroger stores to ban open carry. So, I googled and that's what the article says too.

As I mentioned before, I've never seen anyone carrying a rifle or handgun in any store in the past 20 years that I've lived here (I live in Indianapolis). So... it seems they're pressuring Kroger's to ban open carry in Indiana because some guys are carrying in Texas and/or some other states. I guess they're being proactive lol - trying to stop it before it happens. What a hoot !
