I have watched several self defense videos for CCW. [1] Many provide methods to guard your gun and prevent it being taken or turned on you. [2] Some have used knives as a primary defense to protect your firearm or secondary if attacked by more than one bad guy. My question is, what are your opinions regarding a good CCW knife. Outside of small flip assist knives, I have not seen any with a CC sheath. I live in WI so switchblades are not a choice. Thanks for your suggestions.
I really am not trying to be a smart-alec, but just want to make sure I understand your purpose for seeking this advice.
On point [1], you're saying that "many" self defense videos depict using a knife to guard your gun from being taken from you? My first thought is, if I'm guarding my gun with deadly force (a knife), why am I not guarding my life with deadly force (my gun) instead? Stabbing and slashing at a hand, arm or body of someone trying to take my gun from me seems a rather haphazard way to retain my weapon in its holster, not to mention that I could very easily stab or slash myself in the process considering that I wear holsters that hold my weapon as close into my body as I can find and afford.
On point [2], am I understanding correctly that you've seen videos of someone demonstrating fighting one guy with a knife in one hand (in the multiple BG scenario mentioned) while fighting another guy(s) with a gun in your other hand at the same time? Like I said, just trying to understand what you're asking. I likely do misunderstand. I seriously hope I am misunderstanding that in fact, but on the off-chance that I'm not, may I suggest that you have nothing useful to learn from such videos or self defense "instructors," as gun-play is definitely not something you incorporate into things you do while "multitasking."
As far as concealing a knife, the ones I know of that are made for concealing are called "neck knives." They are almost always small fixed blades and have a chain or leather thong or cordage attached to the sheath to hang it around your neck and conceal it under your shirt or jacket or whatever. There are tons of different
Link Removed, and most custom knife-makers make 'em too.
If you're committed to a folding knife in some kind of concealable sheath, while there may very well be an off-the-shelf knife/sheath combo that I'm unaware of, you will probably find it easier to locate a good custom sheath-maker who can make one to fit the folding knife you like best, or already own as the case may be.
