I have not gotten my CCW yet but I was wondering am i allowed to holster my wepon in my car if i have no ammo in the vehicle?
I will be taking the class and getting registered soon but would like to help me get used to the rig with a gun in it. I am wearing it with the gun in it at home and i wear the holster every waking hour empty.

not sure about how it is in ohio but in florida you can so long your vehicle on your own property and you can in your house too ...but i wouldn't want to get caught driving with it loaded or not without your ccw permit/license

So, depending on your state laws you should be able to carry the firearm loaded or unloaded. In Oregon you may carry on you at all times even if it's loaded or unloaded. My recommendation would be to carry it loaded at all time to get use to it. But check with your state laws and follow them to the letter.

Are you saying in OR you can CC without a permit?

As a person without a recognized license, here are your options for transporting an unloaded gun in a motor vehicle:

(C) No person shall knowingly transport or have a firearm in a motor vehicle, unless the person may lawfully possess that firearm under applicable law of this state or the United States, the firearm is unloaded, and the firearm is carried in one of the following ways:

(1) In a closed package, box, or case;

(2) In a compartment that can be reached only by leaving the vehicle;

(3) In plain sight and secured in a rack or holder made for the purpose;

Lawriter - ORC - 2923.16 Improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

Perhaps you might consider this... the presence of a gun can affect an encounter in any number of ways, the leat of which could be guessed. I would refrain from wearing it in public until you can properly carry it. During the interim just wear it around the home if you must.
