Just went to see 'The Last Stand'

So, I went to the movie, figuring it'd be pretty pro 2a, after all even from the previews the plot seems to be small town gun owners vs. army of heavily armed criminals... Though I was disappointed in a couple respects. First of all, first 5 minutes of the movie, while the deputies are out shooting at Johnny Knoxville's character's place, Arnold drives up and asks 'if you have a permit for that beast' referring to his openly carried .500 S&W Magnum on his own property. To which the character gets a sheepish look and digs through his... bathrobe, pulling out an AZ CCW and an FFL! I mean come on, do they understand any of the laws in this state? He wouldn't have needed a permit if he was in the middle of downtown phoenix... I digress.

It's possible that Arnold was just f-ing with the character because he's Johnny Knoxville however, as he threatens to cite him if he doesn't "give him a turn" shooting the massive revolver.

That and while they wind up relying on Knoxville's massive stash of weapons to turn the tide, he is rather obnoxiously dressed and characterized as the 'crazy gun nut' walking around in his bathrobe wearing a medieval armored helmet carrying a shield, with his dusty barn full of pallets of ammo stacked floor to ceiling and racks and racks of rifles and machineguns... though I'm curious where he got the money for all this stuff as he's driving around what looks like a vietnam war era supply truck and living in a decripit farmhouse...

Also noticed one particularly glaring editing problem wherin a deputy unloads his Glock on anonymous badguy C and they pan to him for a reaction shot, wherin his slide is clearly locked back, and then he immediately fires another round to make sure the guy is dead. Not to mention people using cardoors as invincible shields versus 15 assault rifles (and yes I mean the real full auto kind) firing full magazines into them... but that's standard action fare. I'm sure the astute among us can find more things wrong with the gunplay.

Still, it wasn't a terrible movie and I wouldn't hesitate to go for those reasons just a couple things that bugged me.

I remember seeing an interview on Entertainment Tonight (I think that was the show) where some guy was interviewing Arnold and Johnny about the movie. Somehow this ass managed to squirm in some BS about the Sandy Hook School Shooting and asked Arnold about gun control. Arnold just kind of tip toed around the question and all the while Johnny Knoxville was sitting there giving a death glance to the reporter. Typical media though, never EVER miss a chance to further your stance.
