Just saying hi

Hello everyone. Just thought I would finally introduce myself. My name is Nicole and I grew up around guns but never really shot until a year or so ago. I took my CC class in Feb and am now just waiting on the license to come in. I will be carrying a Taurus Millenium Pro PT111 9mm. I am trying to figure out if I want to carry in a purse or IWB. I think for right now until I am really comfortable I will carry in a crossbody purse but eventually move to IWB.

I am still new and don't really know all the lingo but I have been lurking for a couple months now since my husband told me about this site and mentioned there was a woman's forum.

Hope you are all doing well and having a great week!

Hi, congrats! I used to carry in a purse but I found that I was always too focused on it. Thinking about having purse in correct position at all times, worrying about getting it out ect. I switched to IWB, bought a Crossbreed Supertuck holster and it works much better for me. The holster is comfortable and it's just a daily part of my wardrobe now.
Everybody is different but once you start carrying you will find the best way for you. Experiment and have fun!

Hello. You sound nice like the woman down the road that always brings cookies.

My wife carries in a purse and has sown a holster inside at the perfect angle for her. She walks with her hand on the gun when she leaves a building and it is always secure and in the same place. She wants to carry in her but is uncomfortable as most women are. Maybe one day she'll just carry open.

Welcome...from Missouri. Enjoy your stay and be thick skinned at times...you will need it here where the boys and guys are. Do not be afraid of them for you can learn a lot from them too. This is a good forum and everyone here is helpful if you ask. If they bite, bite back.:yes4:

Sorry I failed to mention the reason my wife carries with her hand in her purse on her gun. She does this because if her purse is snatched she will have the gun. Surprise! I've tried to talk her into a back up gun on her body but she is not the type to be pushed.

Hi there! Thanks so much for the advice. That is what I am worried about too. Plus I have a habit of leaving my purse in the car and just taking in my wallet. I know once I get to actually carry I will be able to tell better which would be best for me. Right now I carry IWB around the house with one of my husbands holsters but really wanting to get one of my own. (waiting for the gun show though and it's killing me!) I have found that IWB is the best for me so far when carrying on my body.
Thanks again!!

Thanks everyone for the wonderful welcome!
Bravo if you lived down the street I probably would bring you cookies! lol I'm only 36 but my husband says I act like a grandma sometimes!

Replied above to most the others... thought I was just replying back to the first one. Oops!

Oh.. and I can bring out the old person I used to be and bite back Tucker's Mom! :yes4:

I'm from Oklahoma and they are considering open carry, although I wouldn't prob. carry open (don't want to be one of the first the bad guy tries to take out) it would be so much nicer so we won't have to worry about printing! And I think it would help me be more comfortable carrying on me.
It is a little much worrying about a purse and my 5 year old at the same time so I think IWB will be what I end up doing.. but in the mean time I can get a new purse out of the deal!!

Thanks again for the replies everyone!!

I was Located to OK for 4 yrs. I liked it. At least you could see the tornadoes coming unlike in TN. Felt closest to home to me( unlike SoCal) no offense to those that lived there :D

Yeah I hear ya about the tornadoes! So sorry for all the ones in TN that lost loved ones and their homes. Tornadoes are no fun and OK does have a few each year. But yes, even though people make fun of us Okies, I love living here! Until I go to Wal-Mart! lol

Hello, welcome and congrats on the decision to arm yourself. Hopefully you will learn a lot here. I would think carrying where you will have the easiest and quickest time to access your firearm would be your best choice and like some others have said a purse could be snatched and quicker than you may be able to react and placing your hand inside at all times may look suspicious and give someone an edge

Hi! Thanks for the welcome!
Very true! In my 36 years I have never had someone snatch my purse, not saying it can't happen but.. I usually have it on me and I usually carry with a longer strap and have it in front of my body anyways. I will eventually carry on body but for just starting out I think this will be best for me... it might only last a week carrying in my purse but hey, at least I will have it with me and not at home because I am nervous or scared. :)

We were attending a board meeting in Athens, Tennessee when the 9 tornadoes hit the nearby areas. I went outside to my car so my dog will not get scared. Someone said one hit Etowah (where we were booked at a hotel there.) It got me to thinking that if the hotel was hit, would we still have our stuffs? Hmmm...they are just stuffs, easily replaceable. But I am glad I have my camera system at the back of the car. Anyway, when the storm settled down, it turned out that it was Ootewah that was hit. I feel sorry for those people.. though I am glad we were able to go back to our hotel.

Have I been to Okie? I think so, but I do not know where, but I have something to show for it...a shot glass or two I collect when I go someplace new. I have no idea you Okies are being made fun of? Made fun of what? How?

Until you go to Walmart...OK cough it up, what is wrong with Walmart in your area??? Is that where most of the people in the People of Walmart photographed at we get sent from email? I always wonder where some take those photographs...Anyway, I go to Walmart here where I live. We have one down the valley (my favourite one actually...) Why would I go to more upmarket store to pay a higher price for a bottle of Coke or other same items when I can buy the same at Walmart for a reduced price? Just saying...

Sorry for the ones it did hit but very glad it missed you!

Oh its just that people usually say people from Oklahoma are just rednecks and white trash. The usual country stuff. lol

Wal-Mart.. well I love Wal-Mart prices but we do have some strange folks in there! Especially if you go back to the town I moved from or the City! Some strange cross-dressers there!

Thanks for the info. It's nice to learn something everyday...rednecks and white trash, eh? I have heard of them but I didn't know they are from Oklahoma...I haven't met any rednecks yet, but then I am always behind many things...I didn't actually see a black man ever in my life until I turned 21 (or 22) either. Then I was asked not to look because "it is bad to stare..." The way my elders were at the time, it may have sounded more like "bad is black"... now it doesn't matter any more what the colour of people's skins are. I have many friends and acquaintance of different skin colours and it doesn't matter anymore. And I don't havw the slightest inclination to stare anymore. Mind you, my husband is Caucasian. I just went and read the definition of redneck, I think my husband is a redneck...

I understand that. I grew up in a little bitty town, only 350 in the school from K-12. I was kinda sheltered in that aspect too. lol

But yes, many folks still consider us 'country folk' rednecks, and from the actual def. most are. A bunch of farmers and just good ol' people that love their God, America and Guns!

Hope you are having a good night. Our daughter is staying with her grandma so we had our date night. Went to the range and blew almost $100 worth of ammo. :( Doesn't take long, but it was fun! That's our date night... I like that better than dinner and a movie anyways!

JohnLM I am! Just got back from the range. That's our 'date' night! Thanks for the welcome! :)

I'm new here too, and a pretty new shooter. Still, the purse carry option makes me nervous. I started a blog called ArmedCandy and I am working on a line for women's shooting gear. I am developing designs for women's concealed carry that use a woman's curves to her benefit, but I'm curious: if you could put your gun anywhere on your body, where would you? (Don't limit your self by asking how you would attach it.)

Thanks for your help and for the discussions you've already had that I am sifting through and finding very interesting.
Come check out the blog & T shop and let me know what you think

Hey there!! I already follow you on FB and check out your blog from time to time too!

I think I would still have it by my hip.. I'm 6' 1" and not the tiniest thing but that's the most comfortable. I have only been able to carry at home because I am still waiting on my license to come in the mail. I don't think I would like the flashbang bra holster because, as I said I'm not the skinniest, and I would rather not have my gun pointed at my chest while carrying. lol

I do love your stuff though, you have some really nice gear! I will come stop by and say hi!
Have a good day!!

Nicole
