Just received my carry permit!!!!!!

Yesterday i got my carry concealed permit for Cattaraugus county. I need to go and buy a gun soon. Can someone tell me the process of buying a gun from a dealer and what i need to do. What is a good starter pistol..

My suggestion to you would be as follows;
1) Go to a gun range that rents guns and shoot several to find which "fits" you best.
2) find the most powerful gun that you can comfortably & safely shoot
3) What ever you purchase and intend to carry should fit your life style (including normal daily way you dress.
4) Then make a purchase. Remembering if it's too big or to heavy for YOU to carry with you all the time, it might not be the best firearm for you.

Agreed.
After you select the gun you want to purchase, the dealer will have you fill out a 4473 form. He will run a NIC Check on you. He will then give you a coupon listing his info plus the serial number etc.
You take that coupon to the County office. Pay them what ever they chage to add the gun to you license.
They then give you another piece of paper to give back to the dealer.
So you go back to you dealer, give him the paper and he gives you the gun.
Assuming that somewhere in this process you gave him the money for the purchase.

Thanks to all for the info. Now i want to carry concealed and need info on the best gun to carry so. I was looking at many and it is a huge deal trying to figure out which is best, money wise ammo prices, help me out here with some ideas... :yu:

Well i went out and bought a gun today, my first pistol. It is a ruger LCP .380 semi auto. It sure is small and very concealable, i liked the feel of it in my hand so i went ahead and bought it. It came with a form fit holster from ruger just for the .380.
Thanks for all the help and any more info for me feel free to let emk have it.... One is never to old to learn from folks who know more...

Good choice... I have about 6 handguns now. My glocks (23 & 27)are my favorite but still to large for me to conveniently carry concealed and be comfortable. So last year this time i got an LCP. I love it and it goes in any of my pants pockets real nice. And with the pocket holster there is really a very slim to none chance of it printing or being seen.

i carry either a north american arms 22 magnum or a charter arms 38 special snubby. sometimes both. as you will find out there are more opinions on this subject than there is pages in the internal revenue code. carry whatever gun feels right for you. when you find the right gun and buy it, brace yourself because owning gun is like eating potato chips. one is never enough. you can never have enough toys er i mean guns. anybody disagree?

Agreed! I've had my permit for coming up on 3 years. I can't seem to last more than 6 months without buying another handgun. Just bought another long gun again for the first time after getting my permit. A Ruger 10/22 with the Archangel kit. Its a sick little plinker
