Got a Ruger SR9c. Super excited to shoot it when my SD ammo gets in (dealer didn't have the ammo I wanted).

On another note, there's a giveaway for the new XDs over here (clicking my link gets me extra entries too)

Congrats on the new firearm.Your going to love it I'm sure.I love mine. Do yourself a favor though.Buy some cheap ammo to practice with. No sence wasting expensive SD ammo on paper.

A comment from one with 1/2 century of experince. The "ammo you want" may NOT be the ammo that your handgun prefers.
As stated, in the interest of economy you really should use some midstream breakin/practice ammo and introduce the SD ammo after running some generic stuff through your pistol. A proper clean/lube process prior to shooting is adviseable.
Don't be the person who buys a SD gun and the "hottest thing going" in the ammo world w/o getting familiar with the gun and ensuring that the ammo functions 100% in your particular pistol.

I bought some plinking ammo and what I hope will be SD ammo... Federal 115 gr JHP, supposed to be good stuff. I'll be testing it soon. Won't be carrying until I get my license and holster, still have to save up for those. SR9c is hard to come by tho, and my local shop had it for $400 new.

$400 is an excellent price on an excellent pistol!! I love my SR40C. I've had many pistols including berettas and a glock. This ruger is my favorite!!

Enjoy. My wife carries the SR9C and it is fantastic. Now on with the multiple holster search, its never ending if youre like me. Congratulations.

Did you fire it multiple times i.e. 50 rounds before you bought it? Had you tried other guns? Just asking because i know from personal experience the compact lightweight polymer guns tend to have a more kick and arent as fun to shoot as a fuller size gun which can lead to not enjoying practice which can lead to not training enough. Which can lead to bad things.

Mobuck has it right. New guns should get broken in prior to being considered for carry, 500 rounds is a commonly accepted break in point. I'd recommend several hundred rounds of fmj before trying any jhp carry ammo. Beware of marketing hype when it comes to choosing a self defense load, this list Link Removed is an excellent place to start as these loads are well vetted. Whatever load you choose I'd suggest insuring that you pistol digests 100 rounds of it without fail prior to trusting it to carry. Best of luck.
