I am planning to travel to Idaho next September. I am a resident of Pennsylvania and have a CC permit. I will be staying with a friend and I would like to ship one of my handguns to my friends home for me when I arrive. I want to do this so I can carry my firearm while fishing in some remote locations. What is the best legal way for me to do this?

How are you getting to Idaho? Why not just take the gun with you?

You can't ship it to an FFL in Idaho because an FFL can only transfer a handgun to a resident of the same state:

Unloaded, locked hard sided pistol case with locks only you have key/combo to, cannot be pried open to gain access to inside of case when locked.
Ammo in packages designed to hold ammo (magazines containing ammo must have covers over the top). Manufacturer's boxes for ammo are just fine (expect bulk, loose ammo boxes). Ammo may be in the case with the gun or separate. Go to a manned baggage counter and calmly tell the clerk that you have an unloaded firearm in your checked baggage that you need to declare.
