Johnny Winter 1944-2014

Farewell to a great legend of Texas blues. My friend Vito played drums with Johnny for many years. While he was no longer touring with him he's pretty upset. Johnny had a lot of health problems in recent years and often needed help to walk on stage. I was introduced to Johnny in 2012 while playing at Brian's Backyard. He was a pretty cool guy. His influences will live on.

Here's a good video of Johnny with my friend Vito Luizzi on drums from 2012 in Bearsville, just outside of Woodstock, NY.

And here's another from Germany in 2009 with Vito singing.

A loss to the music industry and the community. He did contribute and actually help lead the field in Blues seventies style. His brother Edger and Rick Darringer all contributed to some really great music. I feel old when people I used to listen to are passing on NOT due to drugs and overdose.

I saw him twice he was excellent and a master of Texas blues. Best album? Still alive and well. He struggled much of his life with drug addictions as so many in the industry have
