John Garand "Live and in Person" Video

This is a great old movie, made by the US Army. What's so awesome about it is that it features the man himself, John Garand, explaining the history of small arms in the USA.

I scrubbed the video through my editing software to try to improve picture quality and sound.

Along about the 7 min zone, he mentioned the "John Williams" modification. John Williams is the one that invented the Carbine, while in prison, in North Carolina.
In 1958 I rented a house from John "Carbine" Williams' brother "Chicken", in Fayetteville, NC. It was pretty neat for an 18 yr old paratrooper to hear some of the stories about "Carbine" Williams.

Too bad we don't still have those youth shooting clubs around the country....

Correction: He did not invent the M1 Carbine, he invented the short stroke piston system used in the M1 Carbine.

They had to work around him and in spite of him the rest of the way to get the M1 Carbine produced.
