It's Time to Ban Sharp Objects!

The title of this thread is probably what is on the horizon for us in the U.S. The UK has already taken firearms away from the populace and, from reports I have read from there, even buying an edged instrument is becoming difficult. I realize there is nothing any more terrible than what has just happened to kids here or anywhere else in the world but the anti-gun crowd is having a field day now because of the actions of idiots. Don't blame the weapon used to commit the crime, blame the CRIMINALS. If a person is determined to kill another, they will do it using whatever weapon they can find. No guns - use knives. No knives - use rocks. No rocks - use ball bats. The list can go on and on but sane people can understand that it is the individual that kills! Maybe filmmakers like Michael Moore who is on the bandwagon against guns could start making movies that are a little more family friendly and don't glamorize killing. Films today encourage weak minded people to act out what they see.

Yesterday, another violent tragedy struck America when a deranged gunman opened fire at a school in Connecticut, killing at least 27 people. This is obviously a tragedy and an indication of a world gone wrong, but as expected the media has taken advantage of this tragedy and framed this story around the gun control debate.

People in the media who are calling for more gun control are either dreadfully misinformed or they are intentionally trying to sell you propaganda.

When gun control legislation is put into place, every gun in the civilization does not disappear; they are not thrown into some magical vortex where they will never be seen again. Those guns aren’t destroyed, and they are certainly not “controlled”, they are simply moved. They are taken from millions of individuals and placed in the hands of one group.

Furthermore, when you put gun control measures into place you are merely taking a means of self defense away from those who need it, and placing an extra advantage into the hands of criminals who refuse to obey the laws anyway.

In China yesterday we saw irrelevant gun control laws can be, when some random lunatic decides to use a different weapon. In this case a knife was used and caused dozens of injuries. Years ago a similar type of attack occurred in China and actually killed dozens of people.

According to Reuters:

“A knife-wielding man slashed 22 children and an adult at an elementary school in central China on Friday, state media reported, the latest in a series of attacks on schoolchildren in the country. The man attacked the children at the gate of a school in Chenpeng village in Henan province, the Xinhua news agency reported. Police arrested a 36-year-old man, identified as villager Min Yingjun, Xinhua said. It did not give further details of the extent of the injuries.

There have been a series of attacks on schools and schoolchildren around China in recent years, some by people who have lost their jobs or felt left out of the country’s economic boom. The rash of violence has prompted public calls for more measures to protect the young in a country where many couples only have one child. In 2010, a man slashed 28 children, two teachers and a security guard in a kindergarten in eastern China.”

When people participate in this kind of senseless violence, it is not the weapon that they use which is to blame, but rather the person themselves, and if you want to look even deeper you could blame the sadistic society that fostered this violence in the first place.

The causal factors behind these sorts of attacks, both the one in Connecticut and the one in China, is buried deep within the attackers psyche, and these events most likely would have taken place regardless of what kind of weapon was used in the attacks.

Additionally, there is no gun owner in the world who is more irresponsible and destructive with their weapons than the various governments of the world. If one truly believed in “gun control” then surely, they would first line up the police and the military to disarm them, since they are after all the groups who inflict the most violence and pain with their weapons.

The mother of the killer may bear some responsibility for the attack if she did not secure her firearms properly, especially with a known "troubled" family member nearby. If I had a strange person in my household, there's no way my weapons would be accessible to them. They'd be double locked, with biometric and/or combination access.

That is why I paid $700 for a gun safe. My wife and I live alone but do have visitors and family visiting but they will not have access to the safe..
