The mother of a 13-month-old boy who was fatally shot in his stroller during a botched robbery Thursday said one the of suspects threatened to kill her baby moments before the boy was fatally shot.

"He asked me for money and I said I didn't have it," Sherry West, the boy’s mom, told The Associated Press Friday from her apartment, which was scattered with her son's toys and movies. "When you have a baby, you spend all your money on babies. They're expensive. And he kept asking and I just said `I don't have it.' And he said, `Do you want me to kill your baby?' And I said, `No, don't kill my baby!"'

One of the teens allegedly fired four shots, grazing West's ear and striking her in the leg, before he walked around to the stroller and shot the baby in the face.

True justice imo, would be to force these two 'animal thugs' into a pit -w- a very hungry maneating tiger and let them feel the terror of being eaten alive. This story makes me so angry! If what i've heard in prisons are correct.... these guys will be in ad seg.. (an isolated and segregated wing where they hold guys such as child rapists)- under heavy protection bc other inmates will want to kill them... so its either living a life of isolation, or a life of looking over your shoulder while being a big, tall, and strapping man's little boyfriend.

I don't know about justice but as a mother myself- i'd love for these guys to be put unarmed, in a room, with several armed & sharp shooting mothers.

That's too bad. They shouldn't allow anyone like this to be protected in prison. That's one way our justice system is flawed. These bastards should be put in a room full of very horny and pissed off male inmates. Even that wouldn't be enough justice.

Biblical justice is what is missing in a society that does not wish to follow the rules of law. Our Criminal Justice system is a joke, no JOKE as it allows law breakers off too easy for the crimes they commit.

How many times have you heard of career criminals getting off with 60 to 120 days in county for an aggravated assault and a first time offender for a lesser crime get 2 years in prison. It happens to frequently putting hardened career criminal on the street just to appear in court in the future.
More money needs to be spend on the punishment phase of the justice system keeping career criminals off the street and away from the public.

If people realized that if caught doing a crime they were going to go away and serve the full term, no good behavior releases, no judicial early releases, and stop releasing criminals because of budget cuts (no one said prison was going to be fun) maybe, just maybe some them will be deterred from committing a crime in the first place.

Some of you may take from this post I do NOT feel the justice system dispenses justice properly, the level of justice does not fit the crime, the justice is not enough of a deterrent to create enough fear of being caught to keep people from committing crimes against society.
That being said, decide for yourself. If you knew that you would be put to death in 90 days for committing a murder do you think that would make people think twice. We used to do just that back in the 20's and 30's until we started getting soft and attorneys started getting elected to political office. Harsh punishment is required to curtail violent criminal behavior. Rant OFF. :yes4:

yuppor: Since you are touting yourself as the resident penal expert and have all the answers to handling our criminal population, why aren't you working in the field and doing something to improve the situation? Your logic escapes me and I sincerely doubt you have the knowledge and/or expertise in the field to give an opinion that would be any more meaningful than that of any of the rest of us. As a matter of fact, I think there are many on here (law enforcement, attorneys, etc.) who could really educate you on the subject. 10x, 20x who cares, you want results it is going to cost money. Stop wasting money and it will be available for more important items.

Plea bargains are a waste of time they are only snitching on their competition and their enemies anyway and usually not bigger fish.

ok, check what it costs to have a criminal trial. 20k at least. 90+% plead out, and it would be QUITE impossible to try everyone before the speedy trial Constitutional Requirement set them free. You don't even know 8th grade facts, sir. now, take the average 30k per year per prisoner, and make that 10x as much, there's 3 million people currently in jails and prisons. there's 3 million on parole or probabation, and 10 million exfelons who are not under "supervision". So, just where is the sytem to get the extra 1 trillion $ of which you speak, sir? What will keep the prisoners from escaping in mass when you treat them so badly? that will take MANY guards. what will keep many more of them from just shooting the cop, instead of surrendering in the first place? Indeed, why would the gangs NOT just go down to police HQ in the first place, kill every cop there, and then go hit every bank and jewelry store in that area, hmm? They'd have nothing to lose, really, by doing so, and much to gain. They could "score" enough to leave the US and live fairly well on their investments,nstead of having to commit a crime a day or per week, and without doubt be caught, many times.

quite frankly, you are a know nothing. The penal systems WANT parole and good time, so that they can reward good behavior and punish bad behavior. Every last prison bed in the US is not only full, there's a waiting list to get in them. Judge's release prisoners on bond for months at atime to "get their affairs in order", when actually, the reason is that there's no bed space for them in the jail or the prison. There are LONG waiting lists for each bed in the halfway houses, too.

When you are fighting for your life, you don't CARE what it takes. Cause it's almost certain that you will lose, and you are not being offered a plea bargain that's even remotely acceptable, you want to represent yourself. Doing so makes the trial take many times longer, because the judge has to do many things to preclude your having MANY causes for Appeal. Your public defender, being an "officer of the court", will blank refuse to do many of the things that YOU can do, to delay the trial and to make it cost the prosecution 10x as much to put you in prison. If you want EVERY suspect doing this, just go ahead with the stupidity that you propose.
