Can you say lawsuit?

I'd say lawsuit. I'd hope that they would be charged as accessories to the crime. With all the laws on the books, there has to be something protecting us from malicious use of the first amendment.

First and foremost I hope there were no innocent people injured. Now that the Journal has effectively aided the criminal in the commission of a felony a hard nosed prosecutor needs to be the next person to step forward. First Amendment aside I hope you people can live with yourselves, this is very possibly only the beginning. I know it is only the 13th of January 2013 but congratulations you people at the Journal are hands down winners of the Jackasses of the year award. I hope the home owners that had their home violated not only sue the paper for every nickel it is worth but every one of the managers and editors get sued for everything they have or will ever have. How is that First Amendment thing working for you now?, losers!

I can hear the boneheaded editor now " where did we go wrong? We were just trying to do the right thing with the freedom of information act. We really should've thought this through a little more."
It doesn't surprise me one bit that this happened. Just wait there will be more to come trust me, & they'll act absolutely shocked when the lawsuits start piling up. Just wait they'll really **** their pants when some poor woman that's been in hiding from her abusive ex husband or boyfriend now has her address & in the mean time she's living in fear, scared for herself & or her kids & is afraid to go to sleep at night. I don't have any sympathy for the people at the paper that made this very bad decision. They will have to live with themselves & the consequences of what they have done.

This is what I want to believe. But I just checked their site, and the map is still up. That pretty much shoots the "where did we go wrong" fantasy, since they've heard the outcry and the reasons to take it down. These people are brainless scum, incapable of remorse.

Unfortunately, it is folly to assign logical motives to irrational actors. (there's a better "A" word for them, but I am trying to be polite so humor me) These idiots did harm to gun-owners and non-gun-owners alike in their attempt to vilify and intimidate law-abiding gun owners. Sadly, someone is going to pay the (horrible) price for their idiocy and this probably won't be the first instance.
.
Regardless of what the First Amendment may say, any blood spilled is on the hands of those who published this affront to decency- such as the anti-gun mob is.

What makes you think that they will ever admit blame, either publicly or even in their own minds. This gun owner deserved what he got and much more. They have caused justice to take place. They are thumping themselves on the chest and saying how great of a thing that they have done.

Nothing will happen (legally) to anyone from the paper, but what I think is even worse, the chances that the burglar who says the map led him to his intended victim(s) will likely only have a slap on the wrist too. He'll probably be on parole before the paper is either convinced to take the maps down voluntarily, or forced to by new laws that appear to be in the pipeline.

If we punished criminals instead of inanimate objects, there'd be a lot less of this stuff going on even with the maps being published. Maybe a few of those published names are on high enough alert now to make an example of the map-reading cretins, and the problem will take care of itself. I'll bet burglars in GA near where that mom shot and hit the intruder five out of six times are either going elsewhere to ply their trade, or reevaluating their career choices right about now. NY'ers could learn something from us hayseeds. LOL

True. All that time spent on fiddling around with who can carry what where and when and then watching criminals don't give a damn about any of it.

If sued, the Journal News will stand on THEIR constitutional rights under the 1st amendment. Your constitutional rights under the 2nd amendment are inconsequential. I've never even heard of this "newspaper" before this, and I'd like to hear of them being out of business.

Coulda seen this coming. Hopefully no one gets hurt as its clear Journal News doesnt care for the safety of gun owners, my bet is theyre someone is going to file a civil suit against them and win big.

I had thought the criminals would use these maps to identify where NOT to burgle out of fear of encountering armed resistance, and hence it put the gun-less folks at a higher risk. I hadn't considered that these maps would serve as targets for where to find weapons.
