Is printing a crime?

I'm new to concealed carry and I know that you always want to be discrete as possible, but is it actually illegal to "print"? I haven't changed my wardrobe much, but I've found people really don't pay all that much attention to me, maybe I'm just not as sexy as I thought. ;) What are the issues here?

it's not illegal in florida to be printing or PRINTING lolz but i try not to PRINT although i know i print esp when bending over

It's not illegal in Washington. But if your going to conceal, then might as well conceal and hide it. I know for a fact that I print just due to the size of the gun and the clothes I wear at times. Warmer weather especially.

Check your state laws to be sure.

I read a piece some time ago where a concealed carrier was PRINTING!!!! and obviously dressed to do so..... this person was ticketed for public intimidation after twisting his body to obviously show a confrontational person his 'print'. Never did see or hear of any confirmation of this...

Personally, if you were to 'size-me-up', specifically to spot my carry, I'd guess a trained eye would be able to catch me at some point, but generally to the average public eye, I would think not.

Here in Indiana, a person is 'licensed to carry a handgun', with no specificity towards CC or OC...so, there's no such issue of legality in that aspect...

I've not known anyone to be be approached by LEOs to inquire about the legality of their OC or CC directly, but an officer could ask to see a license, as they are specifically allowed by statute to do so in Indiana.

I'm not sure if it's necessarily illegal, in some states you might be fined for public intimidation or brandishing. In New York it's not acceptable to print, and I can't say I've ever really dealt with the legal side of it. As an LEO I used to casually mention to the person they're printing, they fixed it and we moved on. I wasn't trying to get anyone's already heavily restricted rights taken away.

On the other side of the coin, there's no such thing as printing here in Vermont. I have a few pictures of some people I've ran into around this state in my short time of being here that can back that up, including one of a shirtless guy on a motorcycle with what appeared to be an LCP or an LC9 tucked into his waistband in the most awkward position, clearly without any kind of holster. I usually OC so printing isn't a big deal. In the winter it's usually "concealed," which consists of pulling my sweatshirt or jacket over the OWB holster. Certainly it's not concealed as you can clearly see it, but either way people have been generally receptive since I'm 98% sure I'm the only one who OCs around here, if not in this state.

Printing with intent to brandish is not printing, it's brandishing.

If OC is legal, I d ont see how incidental printing could be an issue - unless, of course, the person didn't have a CWP.

Here in NY, printing is not a good thing. Most LEO's are pretty good about it, like Etkini said previously, some, in more urban areas, might not be. It's not that hard to avoid, and it will save you some attention that you really don't need.

So for FL , you can wear OWB and if you bend or and bottom of holster is exposed it's ok?
IF someone sees and calls it in I know you will prob get a visit from an officer but as long as you have a permit will all be ok ?
New to Fl just want to be safe

I'd like to see a cite on that

In California open carry is illegal. whether an overzealous cop could turn printing into an open carry charge I don’t know, I do know that if you take reasonable care to ensure that you don’t print you shouldn’t ever have to find out.

As I said previously, I usually carry with an OWB holster and a jacket over it in the winter. The bottom is generally exposed and certainly gets exposed when I squat down or sit, but it's not a big deal.

My point is, if you have a Florida CCW, and being that Florida is also an OC-legal (notice I didn't necessarily say "friendly") state, you should be good to go. I would however make sure to follow whatever rules the state may have in regards to both OC and CC. You may as well OC and throw your shirt or jacket over it if you need to if you plan on making it almost 100% obvious you're carrying. I also tend to dress a bit nicer than most especially when carrying OC. I would imagine people would be more likely to call in if they saw someone with a shirt 2x too big and pants around their knees showing the bottom of a holster.

Will I have my fl CCW but I was told by many the fl is not an OC state anymore ?

Basically my question is if someone would call into authorities and I was approached by an officer what is the worst-case scenario.
Does he approach and ask for my CCW in then tell me to cover up and go on my way? Or is it something that would be a bigger hassle?

Yeah, no Open Carry is not legal in Florida except in very specific circumstances

Just one more reason we don't get our legal advice from the internet

It IS legal: "In Florida, you can legally open carry a loaded firearm while engaged in, or going to and from, Fishing, Hunting, and Camping. With some planning and preparation, a law abiding person can open carry a firearm in public and stay in compliance with the law". Florida Open Carry

I went to the grocery store last winter to buy some produce and was wearing my 1911 OWB under a zippered hooded sweatshirt and jacket which covered it nicely except for when I had to reach for something on an upper shelf. The jacket and sweatshirt went up far enough to go behind the gun and hung there. I didn't notice until I was gettin some strange looks and then one girl loading veggies said I was showing and I kind of got embarrassed but she said "don't worry I won't say anything because I carry too. It does produce a bulge under coats too. Makes ones hip look a lot wider than they should be but I never had anyone ever say a word to me about it even police who knew I was carrying when I went into a gas station to pay for gas. I guess some states and people are more anal than others.

The average sheep will never know the difference. I carry an unholstered Kahr CW9 in a front pocket nearly all the time. If you know what you're looking at, you can easily see that I have a gun in my pocket. I've never had anyone that obviously noticed and I've never had any comment. If you carry a full size 1911 or some such gun and wear close fitting clothes, that might be a different matter.
