Is It Just me Or Are People Getting Dumber

Treo

Bullet Proof
I’m getting ready to leave work a while back and 3 of my co-workers start talking about guns. I didn’t listen to the whole conversation but I heard one of them talking about all the cool gunz for sale at the PX on Ft. Carson. “They’re really cheap and all need is someone in the Army to buy them for you… “

At this point I turn around and tell them that they are talking about a straw purchase and they could go to jail for a really long time for it.

Their response? “Oh you don’t know”

Then they start talking about different ranges in town some one mentions Rampart Range and they proceed to talk about how it got closed because some Mexicans got in a gang fight up there….

I join their conversation again to mention that Rampart Range was closed because some one got shot when their muzzle loader malfunctioned and it’s been proven that unsafe firing practice had nothing to do w/ the incident

Their response? “Oh you don’t know”

The conversation moves on to this wonderful huge new range that will be built on Ft. Carson. It will be open to the public and it’ll be big enough to shoot a Barret on "the General said so" ... ( I so wanted to ask " Are we talking about the ADCM? The Post Commander? the Meddac Commander? which General said? but I didn't)

By this time you’d think I’d had enough sense to just shut up, finish my paper work and leave but noooooo. Glutton for punishment that I am I decide to take one last shot at it and I mention that I’d be hesitant to fire on an on post range because you’re required to register your guns w/ the Post Provost Marshall before you’re allowed to bring them on post . You know what happened next right?

To be fair I’m 46 and I think the oldest of them was like 24 maybe. So, I’m sure they thought I was just some old fart that didn’t know but I’ve met rocks w/ higher IQ’s than theirs collectively.

Am I being a hypocrite to say that if it was up to me none of the three would ever get into the same grid square as a gun ever again?

I mean just their conversation in that short time convinced me that they aren’t old enough to be trusted w/ a firearm ( and two of them have at least 2 deployments in Afghanistan under their belts) w/ out direct adult supervision.

Was I that much of a know it all when I was 23 ?

Congratulations, you have just lowered yourself to the level of judgmentalism that several other members of this forum are on. Do you really have to know straw-purchase laws and why a particular gun range was closed in order to safely handle a firearm?

Let me ask you this.... SHOULD it be illegal for my wife, a person who is lawful to possess and carry a firearm, to give money to me, a member of the US Navy, to buy her a firearm from a store? Since the law makes no sense, why should we expect everyday people to know that such a nonsensical law exists?

And Treo, you should have let them know that doing a straw purchase at the PX could also get the buyer's PX privileges revoked.

You may wish to read the post again from a less literal perspective

I will agree with you, the general knowledge level of those under 25 years old appears to be lacking compared to those over 45 years old. Thank goodness there is an about 80 year old woman who works at Arby's where I went to lunch today. The total was 7.82. So, I gave $8.02. After she keyed in the amount I gave her, I said, "Oh, wait!" and gave her 5 more pennies. She actually ciphered in her head, without hesitation, that she owed me 1 quarter in change! How many <25 year old cashiers could figure that out?

Yes you probably were....lol...I think we all were...it's amazing to see how young people act then honestly look back at your own decisions as a young person. Now you will remember it from YOUR perspective in which you weren't that big of an ass, but chances are you were, I KNOW I was! lol

Did you mean you think people are getting dumber because all the forum members here think this is a new thread and are all responding to it like they havent seen it before?

You posted the same exact thread on 7-22-11.

I did? I didn't remember, I cut and pasted this from GRM It's still a good topic and as long as you purport to own a gun I will still worry about my fellow gun owners

of course people are getting dumber, we have eliminated nature selection and evolution is taking its course..
to correct this we need to outlaw seat belts, airbags and other devices that let people do stupid things and live through them. Better yet replace that airbag with a small explosive charge. Now go ahead drive while texting on that cell phone and the gene pool will begin to improve. And the rest of us will become very careful drivers.

Well, it really is common sense? No one needs a license to breed. So when 2 complete idiots with IQs below 65 copulate & create another human being, what do you think happens. This phenomena has been running rampant for decades now.

I know the answer to that!!! The offspring becomes a politician! And his relatives elect him!

So true, it's beyond comprehension. Some people these days just don't think any more...

Again I direct you to the greatest movie intro of all time. Watch this movie. The future is now. ;)

I have many colleagues who have degree's hanging on their walls who day in and day out display a complete lack of common sense. The problem more than a low IQ score and poor breeding habits. Most people don't know that they are “dumb” or refuse to admit it.

Prior to the industrial age teenagers were much smarter and more mature than most people in their 20's are today. This purposeful dumbing down of society called the no child left behind program designed to let lesser IQ's progress to levels they shouldn't is down right un-nerving.
