Keeping a gun cocked all the time in a striker fired pistol my M&P shield when its not loaded is that bad for the gun ahould i dry fire to release tension?

If you are worried about hurting your gun for having it do what it was made to do, then you must not think its a high quality gun. Go buy a Glock. I keep mine "cocked" 24/7, unless I clean it.

Not to pick on you, but this question falls into the same category of questions as "Is it okay to leave my magazines loaded?"

Your gun was made to have a striker that was partially under tension for long periods of time just like your magazine was made to hold bullets. You wont break it by having it do what it was made to do.

The above is 100% true.

That said, it also won't hurt your gun to dry fire it before storing it either. If that's how you feel most comfortable do that

All weapons will wear out eventually for one reason or another. That's why they make replacement parts. You can buy snap caps in your caliber. You can get some dry fire and/or function practice (dependiing on the type) plus release spring tension. Do what makes you feel better.

Springs fatigue from the compression/release cycle. Being under load will have little effect on your striker spring.

Years ago my grandparents property was sold and the old house was going to be razed, my dad and I went to ck the old place out nobody had lived in it for years, anyways we found several old boxes, and on we found no guns but we did find a shoebox full of old 1911 mags still loaded, the he brought back from Korea, (marines) we thought no way would these things still fire, at the time those mags had stayed parked in that shoebox for 50+ years, not only did they fire and the mags still work that old ammo still seemed to have a lot of snot left in it

Ok thanks now or a real question guy told me not to oil the barell (inside) iv have rifles shotguns and always oil the inside of the barell. Oiling inside of barell bad for it?

Not only should you put a very light coat of oil in the barrel, most manufacturers tell you to.

Example: look at the video on the Ruger website on how to clean a mini 14. The final step that they show is running an oiled patch through the barrel.

I have heard that too much oil in the barrel can lead to over pressure when firing. My last patch is usually soaked in Hoppes because that will continue to draw copper fouling out of the bore
