Is America No Longer a Christian Nation?

A good and very important read. Filled with a lot of quotes buy our founders. Pretty long so I am just posting the link.

Because obama said it, and said it while trying to suck up to Turkey and other Muslim nations, I certainly don't believe it.

Also, since he FAILED to ask or represent the nation that elected him, he is once again failing to accurately or appropriately serve in his role. I'm astonished anyone takes this guy seriously; he's like a talking manaquin with a pull string in his bum. Who's pulling that string?

While we're certainly NOT the nation we once were, our heritage remains.

This nation was based on terms like "In God We Trust" and "One nation under God". Now there are those who wish to remove this from any form of national pride. Soon our currency and Pledge Of Allegiance will lack these terms. Obama spoke without justification and without asking the "people". Just another campaign promise broken along with many others. The U.S. should stand strong in the forefathers foundation and not cow tow to foreign governments.

In my opinion this is still a christian nation although the major news media is trying to make the world believe we are something else. Thank you Mr. President. Three cheers for hope and change. :sarcastic:

The ACLU their ilk seem to believe that because of the constitutional principle of the "separation of church and state" (which is nowhere to be found in the constitution, by the way), that this is a secular nation, and they want to try to jam that down everyone else's throats. If this is not a Christian nation, as they claim, they why is it that well over 70% of Americans, including President Obama, identify themselves as Christian? Furthermore, why is it this country has a higher level of church attendance than any other country "at a similar level of development."

We do have the right to be stupid and superstitious, however this is not and never has been a Christian nation. It's a Democracy not a Theocracy, if you want one of those try Iran.

While I take acceptance to your "stupid and superstitious" comment, there IS evidence that many of the founding father's were in fact Deists and not "Christians."

OTOH, I think the point of the previous posts is that the population is comparatively Christian.

And your final statement in syllogism form shows that it is self-contradicting to the end of your first:

This is not a Christian nation
It is a democracy
Therefore it is not a Theocracy

You see, a Theocracy, by definition, is a government based on God as its head.
A Theocracy does not necessitate "Christianity," but a God (the First Source, if you wish).
Which, by definition is Deism, which many of the founding father's in fact were.

Not to mention that this country is supposed to be a Republic, not a Democracy.

Of course we're not a theocracy, Christian or otherwise. I have never heard anyone claim that we are or were. Japan is not a theocracy either, but it is a Buddhist nation. Israel is not a theocracy, but it is a Jewish nation. Long after France threw off its monarchy, it remained an officially Catholic nation; same with Italy.

The framers of the Constitution didn't want a "Church of America" to which everybody paid taxes. But Jefferson was certainly Christian, and the notion that many of the others who supposedly believed that God created the universe and then left (Deism) is based on a few carefully selected quotes taken out of context. The beliefs of the framers fell by and large well within Christianity and the Judeo-Christian tradition. I don't know of any who were outspoken atheists.

The framers most certainly did not believe, as does the ACLU, that any public acknowledgment whatsoever of our Judeo-Christian heritage is inherently unconstitutional.

Let's not pick nits over the term democracy. It is in fact used more widely in its general sense, to mean "government by the people," than in its narrow, technical sense of "majority rules." Even political scholars refer to "the Western democracies."

I think you mean "take exception."

I think you misspoke. This" is" a Christian nation. It is a not democracy. It is not a Theocracy. It is a Republic.
A democracy is only the first step in the move to make this nation a socialist nation.
I hope I get this right.
“I pledge allegiance” (I promise to be true)
“to the flag” (to the symbol of our country)
“of the United States of America” (each state that has joined to make our country)
“and to the Republic” (a republic is a country where the people choose others to make laws for them -- the government is “of, by and for” the people)
“for which it stands,” (the flag means the country)
“one nation” (a single country)
“under God,” (the people believe in a supreme being)
“indivisible,” (the country cannot be split into parts)
“with Liberty and Justice” (with freedom and fairness)
“for all.” (for each person in the country...you and me!)

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15

Is there anything else that needs saying?

Speaking of stupid you just proved that you don't have a clue. Like most atheists you are woefully ignorant of history. First of all this is a Republic not a Democracy you idiot. Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, Romans 1:21,22
