~Intralasik Eye Surgery~

~The Dude Abides~
I'm considering getting intralasik eye surgery.
Has anyone here had this procedure done?
Any thoughts on the procedure?
Good? Bad??

I opted for PRK instead of Lasiks due to the recommendation of the police academy. The problem they stated was the "Flap" that is created in Lasiks and the problem of the "Flap" coming loose in a confrontation. This is one of the reasons why the military only allows PRK vs. Lasiks. The healing time is longer with PRK, but both processes only takes a couple of minutes per eye.

oh wow that is something to consider for sure

here a link you might want to check out

best wishes i hope whichever you choose works well and good

I had Lasik done in March of this year. I did not have a single problem and I love the fact that I don't need glasses for everyday stuff. I still need 1.5 diopter readers though. At the range...no problem at all.

Hey outlaw, a couple thoughts. I have not had lasik but have never met anyone who had it who was unhappy. Also, I don't know where in TX you are, but I am a big golfer and think the guy who did tiger woods lasik is in houston. I assume he is pretty damn good if woods chose him. Not that I am a fan of tiger's anymore, for obvious reasons.
One reason I have not had lasik:my eye doctor told me anyone who has hard contacts (mine are gas permeable, which are considered hard) should wear glasses for 6 months to a year before having lasik because the contacts reshape the cornea and you want the cornea to reshape back to natural state before having lasik, otherwise you will have lasik, then have it again in 6-12 months after the cornea reverts back to normal.
Damn, dude, if you don't wear contacts I just wasted two minutes of my life I can never get back.
But I would have it, I just don't have the $ right now.
Hope that helps.

I have had lasix aprox 12 years ago and the only problem I have had is lights at night have a halo effect around them but it is not a reason why I would not have it done again. I also had to wear my glasses for about 6 months before the surgery. I went into the surgery legally blind without my contacts or glasses and came out seeing 20/20 great results for 30 minutes of my time. Have not had any problems at the range afterwards.

i'm lucky so far only use readers glasses but i don't see well at night driving the lights are blinding at times esp those new headlamps and even the police lights are way too bright seems to me they should be a bit softer for safety on the road imo

I wore contacts before I had the surgery. They stated that I had to go one week without SOFT contact lenses before the procedure and two weeks if I had hard contact lenses.

Also, my HMO covered 10-15% of the procedures and there are also discounts for 1st responders. I am 20/20 and was worth every penny (3k). Since I had PRK, it took about a week before I was able to go back to work or drive properly, because your eyes will be very sensitive to sunlight.

Good Luck!

Wow sounds like a tattoo in your eyeball lol

Our youngest son had a PRK done before he went to military school. It was a simple procedure but it works so well for him that he came out with 20/20 but recently his eyesight had improved to 15/20. He used to wear contacts too.

Had lasik in 1999 when it was much more difficult and still had no problems. Do your research on your doctor, though. No groupon deals, lol.

Agreed.....
There are just so many eye doctors out there that are doing this procedure nowadays.
I'm still trying to find out which one is the best one in the DFW area.
