Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, YES!!! And his remarks were carried on ABC News!!!

"Ask yourself: If that was Denver, Col., if that was Texas, would those guys (the recent terrorist attack in Kenya) have been able to spend hours, days, shooting people randomly?" Noble said, referring to states with pro-gun traditions. "What I'm saying is it makes police around the world question their views on gun control. It makes citizens question their views on gun control. You have to ask yourself, 'Is an armed citizenry more necessary now than it was in the past with an evolving threat of terrorism?' This is something that has to be discussed."

"For me it's a profound question," he continued. "People are quick to say 'gun control, people shouldn't be armed,' etc., etc. I think they have to ask themselves: 'Where would you have wanted to be? In a city where there was gun control and no citizens armed if you're in a Westgate mall, or in a place like Denver or Texas?'"

Mr. Secretary, you need to deliver this message to Obama in person at your earliest possible opportunity!!!

I just faxed this article to the President, my legislators in DC, the Gov. of MI, and my state legislators as well. This was too good NOT to send them!

Nah, it couldn't be a voice of reason... Interpol is headquartered in France.

But crap, I learned something. In France you can carry concealed. Who knew? Maybe it truly was a voice of reason.

The Sec. Gen. of Interpol is an American. Sounds like he might be on our side!

What a lot of people don't know about the "North Holywood Shootout" - where two felons in full body armor with garage converted full-auto rifles were caught robbing a bank - is that most of the police who were shooting back with anything more than service revolvers mostly got those rifles and ammo from local gun stores.
.
Not possible in CA any more but if any group tried to take over control of a shopping mall in any state with relatively free access to firearms, even if the police arriving didn't have enough equipment there would be more than enough firepower available within the hour.
.
I do find it striking to hear that message coming from any official in the EU though.
