interesting confrontation

This clip made me a bit angry, but not for the reason you might think. I am a firm believer in our right to carry. My wife and I both CCW on a daily basis. I also understand our rights are under attack and tested daily, BUT that is not an excuse to deliberately be an ass hole. Police have a job to do, and its a dangerous one. They deal with the scum of our wonderful society, and have to investigate these types of claims. There is no reason to intentionally escalate a situation like this. That police officer has no idea if you have been drinking, doing drugs, or if you just killed your girlfriend. As a gun owner I appreciate the fact that these men and women at least check into these types of calls. Just because someone has a gun doesn't mean they are supposed to have one. People like this guy make the rest of us gun owners look like a liability. People and videos like this do more damage to our fight to keep and expand our rights they any good PR piece we could get out into the media.

You DO realize that just about everything you said above applies equally to police?

I don't know that cop or what he's involved in.

Neither the cop nor I need to like or trust each other.

We just need to obey the law, whether we like it or not.

The above comment by dean is exactly what I was referring to. If I’m in an alley and I see a cop on one end and anyone else on the other end and I had to bet who would be a problem I wouldn't go with the cop. Let’s be real. Are there bad cops? Yep. Bad doctors? Yep. That doesn’t mean I need to be argumentative with every person I come across in my daily travels. The police are charged with protecting and serving to the best of their ability. People with the above mentality are more dangerous than the guns they carry.

If I'm in Chicago, New Orleans or Philadelphia, I could flip a coin as to who's going to be more of a threat.

Again, I have no duty to fawn over the police, merely obey the law.

I think that in states/localities that allow open carry the dispatcher and police need to catch up. The dispatcher should ask MWAG callers if the person is acting in any threatening manner. Simply carrying a gun isn't disturbing the peace. If it was, why would the state legislatures pass laws allowing open carry. I think in this video the guy was being confrontational and could easily have cut this short by answering a few questions, but the police should never have even been there. I say the police need to catch up because where open carry is legal, by its nature people will be seen carrying guns. This should be obvious.

I don't have a problem with the police responding to the "man with a gun" call, but once they roll up and see it's just a dude open carrying they should be on their way. These days, a man with a gun can mean all kinds of trouble or nothing at all, telling the difference between the two is the key and perhaps they need more training in that department.

But it ALWAYS bugs me when these folks go walking around open carrying on the BUSIEST street they can find (Camera in tow) JUST TO INTENTIONALLY draw the attention of the police and then act like d-bags quoting the 2nd, 5th, and whatever other laws they can use to justify their "cause". It just make the rest of us look like morons too. If you open carry as a daily practice you will likely have the police called on you far less than if you leave with the intention of causing the interaction. Even then all you have to do is politely state that you are simply going about your day and you are legally open carrying a firearm. Then give them some very basic info and be on your way....quick and easy!

If being an ass was grounds for arrest then many here would be frequent guests at the County lockup. I expect stupid stunts from the average dipstick, however the guy in the Uniform is SUPPOSED to be a Professional and all this "RESPECT MY AUTHORITY" crap gets old.

Just spent two weeks in the last really free state in the union, AZ, open carry not so much as a stare except in Sedona, lot of NY tourist, they stared and did not say a word, only LEO I saw was while fueling car, his comment "nice piece". Police in AZ are well informed and polite.

And that my friend is the proverbial nail head. Education (informed). The people that made the call to police about a man walking down the street with a gun where the beginning of the uneducated string and the cops were the knot on the other end. Evidently once on site these knot heads (had to work it in) were bound a determined to press their position even if they are uninformed. It seemed that they did know that open carry is legal but they don't agree with it. Evidently they wee more worried about public appearance that the actual law.

K posted this video up earlier, but that's okay I don't mind watching people actually stand up for our rights for once. The few that care enough, in the face of everyone, to do what's right. That guy is awesome.

CCW causes less if any of a stir. That's why I believe CCW is more appropriate than OC anywhere except a National Forest or National Park lands.

There was a similar video posted last week.. I took the same stance initially as some of you. Upon reflection I decided I was wrong.
What the guy did was legal. What the cops did was not. Bottom line.

OC is legal in most of missouri. Do my rights not count just because it makes people uncomfortable? I'm not a cop hater but those guys could bite me pulling a weapon on me when I'm just walking down the street.

Makes more sense to go with the flow.

Out of sight is out of mind.

You are either cop or you are little people.

Since you are not cop, makes more sense to go with CCW.
