The Indian state firearms factory is marketing the Nirbheek revolver specifically to women because of a growing problem with rape. Nirbheek is a hindi word meaning, "fearless." It is an updated version of the Webley MK IV, a top break, 6 shot, .32 S&W long revolver with a 3" barrel and titanium frame. Unfortunately, only the wealthy will be able to purchase it as it costs the equivalent of 2 YEARS WAGES - $1900 US at current exchange rates.

Indian law limits available calibers to no larger than .32.

Still, with the Indian government getting behind this, it would be nice if our own government would learn the same lesson. Firearms are a more effective defense against rape than whistles or claiming to have an STD.

Kinda Caste in hereditary stone.

This seems to be something the American government would do to appease the public and be able to say "we offered you the solution now you need to deal with it".

To offer a weapon that is not really designed for defensive use at a cost of twice the average yearly salary of the population is just political bunk, a feel good policy so the government appears like they care, that they are doing their job, that they deserve your respect and vote.

We know how this works, but Indians know better fore their system of government is much worse than ours and openly only protects those with money and/or powerful people. Caring little for the lower class of people, remember they lived with a caste system for centuries, you really think the same caste system is going to completely disappear in a matter of a couple of decades. Even though the government has made numerous legal attempts to protect the untouchables and tribal levels, times are still tough if you are among their caste. Since the current system operating in India is based on hereditary and it is not changeable, they are stuck where they are in life.

Considering the history of gang rapes in India I would say arming the women would be a good idea. As to this pistol I kinda scratch my head and ask why not the 32 mag or 327 magnum?

Or how about one that wouldn't cost so much??

Two years wages would be the equivalent of our government coming out and saying, "yes, women should be armed to protect themselves. Here is the solution, the new Female Defender .32. It only costs $30,000".

How many would balk at that solution?

The $30,000 comes from doubling the median female individual income for someone with only a high school education and is aged between 25-49. Personal income in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
