In store or online

Where do you buy most of your ammo and firearms:

Online or store purchase?

I've started buying most of my firearms online. I hate that the internet has taken the place of the small gunshop in my life but there is usually too much of a difference in the price between local and internet.

There is a lot to be said about a relationship with a local gunshop and $25-$50 difference may be worth it on an $800-$1000 gun. $100 or more is not worth it to me.

I usually buy my ammo at gunshows. Shipping will kill you on ammo.

i only have one handgun, which i bought at a big respectable brick and mortar retailer. ammo i buy online, jack ross. 1k of .40 reloaded for 199 shipped. not even worth the hassle of reloading your own at that price.

I have been able to purchase some firearms locally from members of a couple of the forums I follow and have gotten really good deals. I have bought the rest from local stores. I usually know what I'm looking for and wait for a good deal to appear. Same with ammo, forum members or local stores. Between FFL fees and shipping charges I do not believe I have paid much more, if any, than on line.

I also have a personal issue with leaving too much of a paper trail as to what I have bought and what quantities I have.

Selling is a different issue, I know I leave a lot of money on the table but I will always sell to an FFL to have assurances of a record that I don't own it any longer.

I bought all of my guns from gunshops. I found one that sells not much above the online price and I don't have to pay shipping or FFL transfer fees. I buy ammo there sometimes and sometimes from WalMart.

All of my firearms have been purchased locally in reputable gun shops. Ammo on the other hand are almost exclusively done in bulk purchases from on line sources. Of course there are those times when it is necessary to "fill in the blanks" and a brick and morter ammo purchase is required.

I probably have done both about an equal amount. I find I have a better selection online, but would love to find what I need at a local shop. I buy ammo online and locally at GA Arms. I may buy some at Walmart or Bass Pro Shops.

I try to buy my firearms from the local shops. I also try to get reloading supplies locally, the haz-mat fees are terrible. But sometimes there is something you want that just doesn't show up close to home, and then I'll but on line.

I will will by everything I can from the local guys. However, they keep getting farther from the price point on guns and will start buying online more. I have done both. If you don't have to pay sales tax, but add shipping and FFL fee, the price can be with in $50 to $75. I will buy from the shop. Lately, my favorite shop sales guy made a stupid comment about how he is the only guy who knows what he is doing and is worth a couple of hundred more than the internet. Well, he may have a ton of knowledge, but I didn't buy my last gun from him. Showed him the on-line and asked him to get close. Not match it - Just get close. Oh well, the last time I looked - zero x $250 still equaled zero commission.
Ammo - Self Defense I buy. All the rest, target, hunting and competition; I roll my own.

The really bad thing is that I live very close to Midway USA. I think the receptionist knows me by me first name!

Most of my goodies were bought online...but guns, rifles and stuff, I just need to hold it first, touch it, cradle it...all those sort of things women do...

In a few months we will just have to start rolling my own ammo ... I believe that would be a fun hobby for a change.

There are a few gun stores near me, but are expensive. And the threre Walmarts near me don't carry realy anything and what they do have is'nt that cheap. Online is my best bet right now unfortunately.

I realize that money is tight right now. But keep this in mind when you buy online. Your local gun store supports their purchases with warranty work that sometimes is not covered by the factory. They have brick and mortar overhead. They have guns that you can walk in and taste touch and feel. If your local gun shops go out of business and you are buying from dealers on line you have nobody to blame but yourself when you don't have sopmewhere to go for warrany or to put hands on on your next gun or holster. Quite frankly I would pay a couple extra dollars to buy locally.

If you buy on line, DO NOT TAKE THE GUN TO YOUR LOCAL SHOP AND EXPECT WARRANTY. Please don't go to your local shop to find out how a gun feels in your hand and then buy online.

Pay the money to send it back to where you bought it from for warranty or repair work.

Do not go in and waste the time of the counter help to question him or her about a manufacturer or product.

If you are going to support your internet store, don't waste the time or money of the local Gun Store. And when they close their range and store, don't ***** cause you don't have aplace to shoot or try out guns or ammo.......Just saying.

Thanks for mentioning Jack Ross Ammo. I had not heard of the site before. Great prices on ammo, even for my XDm 45.

I can't agree more. I would never waste the time of a shop where I don't plan to purchase anything. I own my own business and hate it when people waste my time.
