Importing air rifle to the States

Hi,

This may seem a crazy question, but....

We are moving to Pittsburgh, PA in October on a H1B visa. We are sending all our household stuff by sea and I have an air rifle less than 12ft.lb. Do I need any license or anything to import it and then store it at our home? I really wouldn't like to arrive in the US and immediately get on the wrong side of the law.

Thanks for any advice.

Read Link Removed. As long as the ATF does not consider it a firearm, you should be OK on the US side. Also read ATF Guidebook - Importation & Verification of Firearms, Ammunition, and Implements of War. It states:

ATF Form 6 Parts I, II, 6NIA & 6A Exemptions

...

12. Air guns, pellet guns, starter guns and flare guns provided they are not firearms as defined in 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(3) and do not have tear gas dissemination capability.

Remember that is also needs to be legal to export it from the country of origin!!!

Also, there are no federal air gun laws. However, some states have their own air gun laws. Read Link Removed.
