Illinois to Michigan Gun Transfer

For my last birthday my father bought me a Mossberg 590 shotgun. He purchased the weapon under his name, but gave it to me. I am a resident in Michigan and he is a resident in Illinois. I used to be an Illinois resident and still have my FOID card. So my question now becomes how I can put the shotgun into my name? Please let me know, I would like to get this done before it all hits the fan.

Thanks!

Let me revise. I want to put the gun in my name. I currently have the gun. What do I do in order to put the ownership of the gun into my name?

You took Il with you huh?........Andrew told you already........you do NOTHING. It belongs to you. You left the Commie state of Il......now leave it behind you.

Your father needs to keep a record of the gun and the "sale"--or gift of it to you for 10 years. If you lived in Illinois, he would need(and keep a record for ten years) your FOID number and wait 24 hours for the transfer of the gun. Neither Illinois or Michigan registers long guns. The state of Illinois does not register handguns. If you were from Chicago, I don't know what rules apply.
