Illinois State Police say: You may begin training for carry concealed.

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois State Police (ISP) Officials announced today that a list of all currently approved concealed carry firearms training curricula is now available on the ISP website at: Illinois State Police Home Page

Approved curricula are ready for use and available for all skills required by the Illinois Firearm Concealed Carry Act (the “Act”), such as firearm safety; basic principles of marksmanship; care, cleaning, loading and unloading of a concealable firearm; transportation of a firearm; and instruction on the appropriate and lawful Interaction with law enforcement while transporting or carrying a concealed firearm. Approved instructors with access to approved curricula, may begin instruction immediately.

The Department has also updated its approved firearms instructor registry that includes a wide range of instructors who have met all eligibility guidelines and requirements. A significant number of firearms instructor applications received were either incomplete or contained errors. Letters have been sent to affected instructor applicants for correction. These applications will be processed further upon receipt of the requested information.

Approved instructors will receive a packet containing instructions outlining their responsibilities for the training under the Act. This packet will also contain a Certificate of Completion form that instructors will issue to class attendees upon successful completion of training.

Training based on approved curricula may begin immediately. Concealed Carry License applications will be available by January 5, 2014.

if/when Illinois recognizes my CCDW them I may finally make that race at RT66

I expect most instructors won't do more than a couple classes and within a couple of years that list will be cut in half to be honest based on conversations i have had with some people.

Your Kentucky (I am assuming) CC permit counts towards 4 hours of training time. So you would need 12 instead of 16. However as an out of state resident, you would have a $300 fee for 5 years.

I have been watching this with great enthusiasm. I have only been to Illinois once in my life and not sure if I will ever get back there but I am happy for the folks of the State. My concern is how expensive they have made it to get a permit. In AZ that $300 fee would carry me for at leat 25 years worth of renewals. Just the hassles they have put in your way to exercise you Constitutional rights is amazing. FOID Card, then the fees, and then the background checks. Then when that is all done the uninformed or uneasy police who will hassel you for years until they finally get it! Especially in Chicago. My hats off to you going for your permits.

Supposedly the FOID and CC cards will eventually be merged into one. So you would need one or the other, but not both. NOW you need both, in the future supposedly it'll be one card.


Yes they have put a tremendous burden on those wishing to exercise their rights. $300 to train, $150 for permit ($300 for out of staters). And the ISP was saying it's not enough. What?! It's alot of friggin money to some people. For me the way I look at it, it's the price of 1 gun. So I have one less gun in my collection, but I have something worth much much more.


Also the law needs alot of fixing because right now it's a mine field of where you can and can not carry.
