Illinois now accepting CCW trainer applications

So Friday Illinois State police released their trainer requirements and began accepting applications for CC trainers.

It shouldn't be long now! I am going to be hosting CC training classes once I get approval. I'm not sure how long it will take for the ISP to approve, but hopefully it won't be long now. I'm hoping for late September or early October.

If anyone wants to be added to the list to be notified about my classes PM me.

Ccw

What do instructors need to do for their Concealed Carry permits? Do we need to seek out fellow instructors to certify us?

Yes and no. First to become an Illinois CC trainer you must be credentialed elsewhere, like be an NRA instructor or Leo trainer, etc... THEN you submit your existing credential to the ISP and they ISP will issue you a credential to be an authorized Concealed Carry Instructor.

It's my understanding that an ISP authorized CCI may certify him/herself to get the carry conceal permit.

Illinois CCW

I went for my electronic fingerprint for the instructor requirement and they told me I will have to do it for my own CCW again. How many times do I really have to be background checked? And pay the fee....

So will their be an online course or do you have to go to the classroom and get some shooting time for non-resident, I might have to drive through there?

That's a complete falsehood. It is totally optional for carry permit holders to get finger printed. They either didn't know what they were talking about or flat out lied to you.

From the Illinois State Police Website...

Upon receipt of a qualified application, the ISP shall issue or deny the applicant an Illinois Concealed Carry License within 90 days, provided the applicant submits a full set of fingerprints in electronic format. If fingerprints are not submitted in electronic format, the ISP is granted an additional 30 days to complete a manual background check. In all cases, law enforcement agencies will have 30 days to file an objection once an application is received

I didn't see your question yesterday. As of right now you would have to drive to Illinois or find an out of state trainer. I know there are several Missouri trainers whom have applied. I am also going to try to broker deals with some of the Wisconsin shooting ranges which border Illinois to hold classes.

You might be able to get away with your first 8 hours online, MAYBE, POSSIBLY. There are several different types of online courses for hunter safety etc... They may or may not qualify, we don't know yet.

For folks in the Western 'Burbs of Chicago:

We got our e-prints done at iTouch Biometrics in Schaumburg; $60.00.
He opened on Saturday afternoon to get our prints (three people) and did a good job to see we had good impressions.

IF you're looking the address is:
iTOuch Biometrics
1320 Tower Road
Schaumburg, IL 60173

Office phone (847) 706-6789
Email: [email protected]

They will give you a form with your TCN once you're done.
Then go to the ISP site and fill out their form (for instructors)
Then print out the signature sheet, fill it out, get it notarized, and send it in with your cash, TCN form, training docs, etc.

AND The kicker is (I was SHOCKED! SHOCKED I tell you) that they ask you (on the online CCW Instructor sign-up form) if, as a CCW Instructor, you think you'll be applying your CCW as well (can't pass up that extra $150 / $300, ya know!).

iTouch also will come out to do your classes too. Figure about ten minutes per student. Price may be negotiable ...

The ISP has begun posting approved instructors. It's a complete joke how few got posted. Heck one guy got approved/listed 4 times. It's like we are watching a live beta.
