NRA-ILA | URGENT: Illinois Legislature to Attempt Passage of Gun Ban THIS WEEK

Illinois Anti-Gun Legislators That YOU Voted Out of Office to Use Their Last Remaining Days in Legislature Exploiting Lame Duck Session and Holiday Break To Impose a Draconian Gun Ban

The NRA-ILA has just learned that anti-gun legislators backed by Governor Quinn are deceptively trying to sneak through a new draconian gun ban as early as Wednesday while the legislature convenes for the Lame Duck Session from January 2 to 9. You voted many of these anti-gun legislators out of office, and now, in their last days as law makers, they want to quietly trample on the rights of all law-abiding gun owners in Illinois. It is imperative that you contact your state legislators IMMEDIATELY and continue to do so over the next few days. The Lame Duck Session will end on January 9, so this bill will be moving at lightning speed through both the House and Senate, with very little time to spare. Your phone call or email will play an important role in halting this assault on your Second Amendment rights.

I do live in Illinois and my jaw dropped into my lap when I read about this on the illinoiscarry.com forum. Posted by the NRA's lobbyist in Springfield. I IMMEDIATELY wrote my state rep and state senator, both are vehemently pro-gun. If this goes down, I'm quitting my job and moving back to Wisconsin. WI wasn't nearly as gun friendly when I lived there 12 yrs ago, plus I was only 18 when I moved here. This is pure insanity. They're gonna attach it to something already in the House, dems have veto proof majorities in both houses, I have a BAD feeling about this.

I too live in Illinois and fear where this may be headed. I too will be moving to Wisconsin if this happens. ( I'm only ten minutes away now.). It goes beyond the gun ban. It is a blatant disregard for our liberties and a first step toward complete control. I have called and written the reps and hope others are doing the same.

I actually expected something like this to go down but not in this way (sneaky as hell). I expected Quinn to announce it and be all proud...piece of Chicago scum. This bill has Rahm Emanuel written all over it. He's trying to distract from the fact that Chicago is the murder capitol of the U.S. The ILGA is also trying to pass a bill legalizing gay marriage as per Obama's request. The thing is, since the ISP doesn't use NICS (uses proprietary system, FTIP) records of FTIP checks are not destroyed. They can run your FOID # and find out how many firearms are registered in your name. I have more registered in my name than I actually own (possess)...did a face-to-face transfer a few weeks ago, sold 3 pistols to help pay for my $1700 AR build.

What REALLY gets me is that the Seventh just shot down the UUW statute and now the ILGA is going full retard, confiscation. Cullerton is giving the Seventh and SCOTUS (and the Constitution) the middle finger by doing this. This proposed legislation violates the Preamble (Article I, Section 9, on a de facto basis), the Second, Fourth, Fifth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments. Reason I say the Eighth is because it's cruel and unusual punishment to sentence someone to a prison term for violating an unconstitutional law. I have a feeling that if this is codified, people will die. Second is obvious. Fourth, search and seizure (warrants? Nope). Fifth, due process (you have none). Fourteenth, denial of due process and equal protection.

It'll be a bloodbath when ISP Troopers try to seize weapons in southern Ilinois or even in my area (West-Central). Also, there are economic implications. RRA is located in Colona, Rock Island Arms (or Armory I forget), Springfield is in Geneseo. Thousands of jobs, poof, gone. Mass exodus of gun owners, who coincidentally are also taxpayers...lost tax revenue, LOTS of it.

I was planning on moving back to WI anyway since the citizens have extracted their heads from their posteriors and elected Republicans. Ilinois is damn near bankruptcy and no one seems to care. Handouts for everyone.

I read about this then checked the NRA site. Still hoping it was just an internet myth, I posted for the Illinois members.
It is true or is it a ploy like the NY Governor is doing.
He is threatening confiscation but will settle for the 100% registration and licensing of all firearms in NY.
Oldest trick in the book.
Call their bluff.

What a bunch of BS. Although it is a lot less restrictive than originally thought, it still is no good. I'm still thinking it won't fly, but I'm still a little worried.

No they're not done. They just sent that one to the floor of the senate, party line vote. Senate Amendment 5,
Illinois General Assembly - Full Text of HB1263
and Senate Amendment 6,
Illinois General Assembly - Full Text of HB1263

Now it's HB0815 (a bill they gutted that was originally written for nuclear power plant safety), this is the full text but click on the amendments.
Illinois General Assembly - Full Text of HB0815

Followed by HB1237 (bill allocating funds for a victim's rights officer), again, read this is Amendment 6 which gutted the entire bill:
Illinois General Assembly - Full Text of HB1237

I'm reading commentary of the audio feed since it won't stream properly, these people are so stupid you'd be amazed. They have no idea how to register "clips" but "they'll figure it out." Colleen Dally said that this is just the first step. One senator said this is step one out of steps 1, 2, 3, and 4 (or something like that). Mind you, this has to be reconciled with the House, then be voted on and pass both houses by the end of the lame duck session. They are RAMMING this through.

“There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering,” the group stated in its alert. “You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the state police and avoid prosecution.”
A Senate committee approved two bills, one dealing with the weapons and the other with magazines. Democratic supporters could face a tough sell in the full Senate.

Wow....
And one of the libtards I used to race with got all bent out of shape when I said that I wouldn't travel to Illinois for a race due to the draconian gun laws. My point has just been proven again...

That link is old. The bills are on ilga.gov, HB1263 and HB0815. It appears as though the Chicago Machine doesn't have the votes to ram through the legislation. They're adjourning without even voting on the AWB or "high capacity magazine" bills. Good sign. Down state Dems are going go vote no. It also doesn't appear that they have enough votes to pass gay marriage either but that may be closer than the AWB. It isn't over until the 97th ILGA adjourns. They passed the income tax increase during the lame duck session last year.

For those that do live in Illinois, have you ever seen them do anything right or anything that ain,t totally screwed up.the Foid card was a fluke, raising out of state hunting lisc. so we that hunt out of state also pays more, choose candidates to run for gov. that are no more than crooks etc. etc. you can bet ur sweet a__ if we do ever get conceal were gonna pay out the a__, and of course they will screw it up also. Like a few of you, if this thing goes through ill prob move out to I really don't know why I didn't move out a long time ago. (JUST A FEW THOUGHTS) You can blame the media for putting more fire under them by saying the kids were killed by an ar15. THIS IS HYPOTHETICAL but if he would of used a little slugger ball bat would they banned all ball bats. It all goes back to the way we were raised I never touched a gun in the house with out asking the old man and neither did any of mine.

The legislation is dead for the 97th ILGA. Here's a video of the Chair of the Judiciary I - Civil Law Committee just dropping the legislation yesterday. Take note of her mention of the messages she's received.

This is not over, it is NEVER over. They will introduce more crap in the 98th, but thank God for the downstate Democrats who are staunch Second Amendment supporters. They simply did not have the votes in either the Senate or House to punch this through. If they did, then it wouldn't have mattered, Acevedo's legislation would be law the second it's signed by Quinn. Oh, and Acevedo's "drivers licenses for illegals" made it out of committee and is going to a vote. So, he doesn't want law abiding citizens to own guns, but he wants those who illegally entered the country to be able to have a drivers license and control a three-quarter ton machine of death (if used improperly). WOW! That's logical...not really.
