Illinois concealed carry

Now that it has been decided that people in Illinois can carry a concealed weapon, where do we apply? I'm sure they don't have any applications yet, but does anyone know how long that will take?

good question look forward to hear you going to get your permit ......here in florida we go to the dept of agriculture ........perhaps you can call the police station to find out?? best wishes and glad to hear you folks can finally exercise your right to defend yourselves esp in that crime ridden state.........i bet crime will go down in chicago and statewide as well.. as more citizens get their permits up there

It's still not legal to conceal carry in Illinois. The judge gave the govt 180 days to draw up a law on conceal carry. The decision can be appealed so this is still not a done deal. It still may be several months before this becomes law. This was a big victory for cow on Illinois, but don't get too excited yet.

Congratulation Illinois. With the caliber of politicians in your state, I can see nothing changing.

Check with the probate court at your county courthouse. They should be able to help you.
Also, congratulations on this "hopefully" huge milestone. Once this is law, this Georgia boy can finally go back to the friendly confines and see my Cubbies play some ball!

just give them at least the laws we have in florida to get them started simple as that imo but i'm sure they going to try and drag it out.......... best wishes to you illinois folks

Problem is that ILL can put jurisdiction in the hands of the local sheriff and if they are anything like those in CA, they will never issue a permit unless it is to one of their political donors or good buddies.

You still have the right to a permit but will play hell getting one.

We are all going to sit back biting our nails. Illinois has a reputation, much as NY, for fighting unfairly and against the will of the People, etc. I would expect that we are still going to see some significant hoops to jump before Illinois residents get their carry permits.

As a non-Illinois resident, I hope that they will set up recognition for permits from other states but am not holding my breath.

Perhaps if they take the true spirit of the decision to heart they will simply recognize a permit issued by any other state, resident or non-resident, and issue permits after a NICS check to anyone that applies, resident or non-resident, with Illinois residents not even requiring a permit, like my heroes in Arizona, etc.

BUT, when you look at a guy like Bloomberg who supports a total ban on handguns in NYC but permits his cops to shoot innocent bystanders with impunity and does not permit the National Guard into NYC as ordered by the Governor of NY because they carry guns, you gotta wonder what is going to happen.

Hope for the best but don't be surprised.

GOLOXG4 I love your signature:

"After the election results of 2012, everyone will now get a fair shot — except that those who work in government and those who take government welfare will get a fairer shot".

However, I would change the last THREE words "a fairer shot" to "AMMO"..."

I also agree with XL180 and add: to get where you want to be, more likely years....At least you are taking the first step....the long and hard one. Here in Arizona we got concealed cary in '97 but it took until 2012 to be free of all the "fine print"....GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT FOR SHOOTING THE BAD GUY, SUED BY BAD GUY'S FAMILY FOR PROTECTING YOURSELF, NO PERMIT REQUIRED FOR CONCEALED CARY, CONCEALED CARY IN ESTABLISHMENTS THAT SERVE LIQUOR, ETC.
Congratulations, good luck and keep up the good fight, keep those SOB's feet to the fire. Don

They still have to pass the law, which will take 180 days. They have that long to have the law pass. Im sure there will be harsh restrictions unfortunatly.

First, the Illinois pols will file an appeal.

Second, the pols will draft the law. It will probably be very restrictive. Will it give the authority to the local sheriff? Maybe, but then much of the state outside of Chicago is relatively gun friendly, so giving the authority to the local sheriff wouldn't be automatically restrictive like it is in California where money talks.

Third, the necessary bureaucracy must be actually established and set in motion. If it is up to the local sheriffs, then some jurisdictions will be good to go very quickly while others will take months at best. If the state maintains control (my hunch) then there will be more delays as the details of how the state regs are carried out at the local level are worked out.

Fourth, reciprocity? Are you kidding? The politicians have fought long and hard to keep their own citizenry from legally carrying, why would you think that they'd allow anyone else to carry?

I would venture a guess that it will end up being like Maryland. Have concealed carry permits but very few people get them.

ILL has to formulate the Law, pass the Law, have it signed and enact the Law and fight any attempt to have a court temporarily block the Law pending further review by the State Supreme Court. We'll all be dust in the wind before you can secure a permit in ILL. Just more tease................

The courts have given the state 180 days to rewrite their laws. You should know by next June or July what is and what is not allowed at the latest.... unless of course they ask for more time, then who knows.

you need to read the decision better, you in IL are not cleared to show up for your permits, yet

Does anyone have a link to the actual court decision? I'd be very grateful to have an opportunity to read it. What I have been hearing is that they have 180 days to come up with a law that honors the intent of the second amendment; permitting the carrying of handguns OUTSIDE of the home and concealed. That's all I have heard. I don't think this fight is over by a long shot, but a court ruling and order for a law permitting the aforementioned is pretty clear and if not accomplished in the alloted time can wind up with a contempt charge coming down on some folks that really don't want to be Bubba's buddy for a few months, if you get my drift.

I am going to take a wild guess and suggest that (a) the draft will be a short leash but will be out in 180 days so as not to make anyone "Bubba's buddy"; and (b) the court ruling may be appealed to a higher court; and (c) the politicians may just roll over and take a set of laws that meet the demands of the court and are in the spirit of the second amendment as suggested by the court and change the pertinent information.

I would have to agree that reciprocity is unlikely but is a battle for another day. First, it's time for all the good folks of Illinois to have the opportunity to carry concealed in the true spirit of the second amendment.

And before getting too excited, let's watch our backs as President Obama surely has something up his sleeve for us with regards to firearms. It would have been nice to see a National Reciprocity Bill make it through Congress this year, but I am afraid that it may be another four or five years before we see that under the circumstances. For the life of me I cannot understand why he has been given a second term. The lesser of two evils? I don't know. But what I get is the feeling that he had, in his pocket, going in... the black vote and in big numbers, the Hispanic vote after the promise of waving his magic wand to make illegal immigrants full citizens in short order AND the uneducated female vote when the competition stuck his foot in his mouth and Obama capitalized on it. Obama also has the press in his pocket... the stuff that is going on and not being reported is appalling and makes Nixon look like a choir boy in relation. But he IS the President and the Commander in Chief and I was brought up to honor the office regardless of what we think of the man... and that I will do until he proves himself totally unworthy (has he done that already... sorry... that Libya thingy and the 800 million dollars that the USA has given to renovating mosques and a few other things (Fast and Furious?) give me pause for thought.

So, let's celebrate victories like Illinois, but keep a watch over our shoulder at the same time, right?

Just sayin' is all.

As soon as the Illinois chief criminals (read: politicians) figure out how to put those permit fees directly into their own pockets, there will be permits issued like it's a fire sale...

be patient

Be patient. It hasn't been "decided" yet. The court has directed the legislature to pass a law allowing carry. They have to debate, now, what kind of law they're going to enact, how it will be administered, etc. You Illinoisans are still a long way from application time. We ex-Illinoisans are rooting for you though. Still have family in the land of Lincoln. I look forward to not having to disarm in Indiana prior to crossing the border when we. Come to visit.
