IKEA not gun friendly

Went to the IKEA here in Charlotte NC today and found on the frount door NO FIREARMS ALLOWED! Needless to say didn't go in want be back. Went to there website to tell them about it and there isn't even a way to contact them.

I've never seen a sign in the IKEA in Minnesota. I carry whenever I go there (and everywhere else) and so far never had an issue. Of course I Conceal Carry 99.99% of the time so that could be why I've never had a problem.

IKEA is well positioned on the left side of the political spectrum, hence their Swedish roots.

You do understand that Sweden is one of the extremely few nations in the world that issues every able bodied citizen a firearm for defence of the nation?

Contrary to your statement, I have been told by Swedish Nationals that gun ownership is not restricted.

As for IKEA, here in central FL, neither of the stores in my area have any signs posted and I've C&C in both without incident.

just my experiences. :pleasantry:

It's the same for texas too, well atleast the one in round rock, TX. sign right on the door. NO FIREARMS... needless to say i dont shop there often...

Oops!

Okay. SO I'm retracting what I said. I evidently don't know the difference between Sweden and Switzerland!

Got a call from my bud that I referred to and he was quick to point out that there IS some separation between Switzerland and Sweded, like a couple of thousand miles!

So the quesation remains; what's this I hear about IKEA not being gun friendly?

I've heard the same. A guy on another forum got a letter from them which stated they do not allow firearms. At the time he was asked to leave the store he was getting ready to make a purchase over 3k. They didn't care. Not that 3k is a big deal to a place as big as IKEA, but it lets you know where they stand.

What's the State Law concerning display of NO CC. If they're not abiding by the letter of the Law enough said, sign is no good. If they are and you CC, what would be the consequences of being caught? Is it worth the risk?
Choices, we always have choices.

Sounds like IKEA prefers not to deal with honest folks, no money of mine will be spent there, we need an "I carry and shop where I can carry" Hitting these and other folks in the pocketbook would be a good start.

Does that sign make it a crime to go in concealed in NC? If not, why do you care about the sign?

I do not beleive its actualy a (crime) but if there is a posted sign the will ask you to leave, or be escorted out, .........now don't come back and flame me but this is what I have been told

And as I have said several times keep the dam thing concealed/keep your trap shut and go about your buisness, trying to make a statement open carrying helps nothing

Why financialy support a business that doesn't support your rights??

You forget that a lot of the things that can be bought at Ikea have a lower price tag. Some items over 70% less than Home Depot.

I haven't seen a sign prohibiting firearms at our local Ikea, but, I do know that they contribute to keeping prices lower at all of the home improvement stores just by the competition.

Are you saying that you are willing to pay a significantly higher price for something because of a sign that really doesn't have any impact on your life?

I haven't forgot anything. I've never shopped at IKEA so I wouldn't know. However, if I was shopping and asked to leave because someone noticed my CC I would do so and not return. I don't care how good their prices are.

If I OC'd into a store and they asked me to leave I would offer to cover up first. If that wasn't an option I would leave and not return.

As for the signs. In some states no gun signs carry force of law. Luckily I don't live in one of those. If I did, that store would not get my business.

In Texas the sign that must be posted is very specific, I make it a point to only shop where I can carry, since IKEA may have a sign saying no guns, I would not shop their business, I assume they are warranting your protection while in store for those who do not wish to carry.

Here in Texas, the law is specific as to the exact wording & type size required on a sign intended to prohibit CHL holders from carrying in an establishment. I ignore signs that do not meet the requirements. The ubiquitous red circle with a gun & and red line thru it, does not apply to those licensed to carry, unless “a person in authority” also requests that you leave (and how we that person know you were carrying?) A Toys R Us in the Dallas area has sign indicating that Illegal possession of a handgun on their premises is a crime punishable as a crime. Really? ILLEGAL possession of a handgun is a crime anywhere you do it.

If I encounter a proper sign (and so far I have not), I have a card to leave with the owner or manager. The card indicates that I will take my business elsewhere as long as the sign remains. The back of the card lists some facts about CHL holders - facts of which they may be unaware. It may seem silly to do so, but how will the ignorant learn if no one teaches them.
