Idiotic Guns Laws Anywhere - They Threaten Us Everywhere

This poor woman was visiting the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City. She noticed the sign that said "no guns allowed".

She asked a police office where she could check her loaded firearm.

She has a valid permit from her home state of Tennessee, but that makes no difference in the Peoples Republic of New York. She was arrested.

This shouldn't happen.

I find it difficult to have sympathy for this woman. Just becasue we don't agree with certain laws doesn't mean we can break then at will. She was dumb enough to carry illegally but she was then concerned about a no guns allowed sign?? Facepalm.....

Aw comeon...Richie Rich...she honestly tried her best to conform. Give her a bit of leeway, call it ignorance of the law or lack of research before she left home, that NY-ers authorities do not permit guns in their small little world. She probably thought it is OK to carry anywhere, anytime until posted, because she has permit from another State. That is how I see it...

My goodnesss, she obviously wanted to obey the law. She was complying with the sign!

Bigger question is how do legislatators in places like New York get away with this crap?

Um....the same way that legislators in every other state that doesn't have reciprocity with TN do.

Because they can is how. New Yorkers wont stand up for their rights as citizens so their gov't does what it wants.

Hate to say it... But she should have checked the laws before she carried in NY... That'spart of our duty as responsible gun owners and CCW permit holders...

So, because she did not check and find out they have a stupid and repressive law, that makes the law OK and it is on her?

I guess I am a little slow, after a career in law enforcement, I still am amazed by the bobbleheads that just accept whatever the legislators do and claim it is entirely the fault of the people arrested for breaking these unconstitutional laws.

The OP was about the idiotic law...not trolling for sympathy for her (though anyone arrested for violating a law that infringes our right to keep and bear arms does deserve at least support).

I agree with Rich about finding it hard to have sympathy for her. She should have been more responsible in doing her homework. She broke the law, the police officer had to do his job in enforcing the law. It is up to the judge to decide. Hope she has a good lawyer. Good luck to her.

Sorry, but it is hammered into us over and over.......know the laws in other states you are going to travel in. Don't get me wrong....I live in NY and think the laws here suck. I also don't think she deserves jail time or anything like that; but she messed up here and deserved a little of what she is getting.

I agree the law is unconstitutional but it is still the law (for now). Unless the woman was trying to get arrested so she would have standing to sue NYC she should have done her homework before heading to NY.

As I said I realize the law is unconstituional but simply disobeying the law ins't the way to get it changed. There is a proper procedure for that an if that's what this woman was trying to do then she should have followed that procedure.

Please quote the post that says the law is OK. Yes, it is on her. Are there any other laws you feel people should be able to break at will and get a free pass because you don't agree with them? It appears that your guess is correct.

1. The law is stupid and I disagree with it.

2. The woman is just as stupid for not knowing about the law.

Ah yes....the "Pick-'N-Choose" method of laws where we only have to obey the ones we find agreeable. A la carte, if you will.

So Pax, as a LEO, how many people did you let go because they simply said they didn't agree with the law and therefore weren't obliged to follow it??? A criminal's dream and a taxpayer's nightmare.

Laws are to twisted to really keep up with all of them state to state
. There needs to be uniformity. ?National Reciprocity comes to mind. If you want to be and feel unprepaired go to a no gun zone. And for some interesting reason the criminals don't seem to follow the law?

Even if national reciprocity passes tomorrrow you'll still need to know the laws of states you travel to. Certain things that are perfectly acceptable in one state may be a felony in the next. Carrying in bars is a good exaample.

"Asking a police officer" is akin to asking for trouble. Very serious mistake. Never draw attention to yourself, particularly law enforcement attention. If you have a question about the law, ask a lawyer.

In this day and age, I have trouble imagining a gun owner unaware that New York City has declared a no-holds-barred war on gun owners. I'm sorry for the poor woman. Years in prison for lacking situational awareness.

Do we have to keep up with all the different laws and regulations regarding where we can worship when we leave our home state? No? why is that? Because states can't tell us how or when to worship according to our constitution.

If regulations made me a lawbreaker for worshipping at my place of choice would I break the law? You bet, it's an illegal law.

There are plenty of people who "shouldn't" be carrying guns. Like the ones who carry them around in their NRA badged trucks with the chests all puffed out ..... until they cross a state line.....or until they come within 1000 ft of a school or any of 1000 other ridiculous unconstitutional regulations.

Do everyone a favor and just leave the gun at home. When a bad guy comes you can hope there is some real American in the room who doesn't give a crap about NY or any other states gun laws who can cut down the BG before he shoots your wife while you fantasize about that gun sitting in your "safe".
