I Wonder How Often This Happens

Treo

Bullet Proof
I have to wonder how often someone that would actually be an asset to this forum shows up makes one or two posts and leaves because all the resident trolls scream “TROLL” at him.

I’ve noticed a trend recently where it’s almost a contest to see who can bash the new poster the hardest and the fastest. I’ve also noted that on the real gun fora (THR, TFL, GRM and such) they generally have more people viewing than this place has active members.

Things that make you go hmmmm?

When I want to participate in adult and reasonable discussion, I go to TheHighRoad. When I want to play in the sand box, I come here.

I'm with Navy on this one. Hopefully the quickness to yell "troll" doesn't translate to the ability to identify a threat...if so, welcome to the MODERN wild west!

I hate to troll on your post but this is posted in the wrong forum subsection, I believe Off Topic would suit it best.

You only get one chance to make a first impression. His wasn't very good. Besides, if he's the forum veteran that you claim he is, he should know better or at least have thicker skin. If he wanted a cookie he should have gone to the candy store, not here.

I doubt if you're buddy will be back.....not after the well-deserved shellacking he took here. If that's the kind of self-serving BS that goes on at those other "serious" forums, you can keep it.

I do not know about the other forums, being new here (Jan 2012) I have learned you must be thick skinned. I came here for information, not to make friends (it would be nice if I did, but it was not my main objective). I feel sticks and stones (guns to) will break my bones, but words will never harm me (I got some tough old skin).

I am pretty new here but can say I am already discouraged from participating. I have asked a few genuine questions about training advice and asides from a few people I get either no help or a smart ***** answer. I ask one sort of noobish question and pretty much just get hammered by accusations that I no nothing and have no clue or don't know what I am doing. Now I do have a thick skin and am not bothered by this but I came here for advice and dialogue not BS. Compared to most of you old guys I am newer to this but I am no noob I just hoped to learn from your wisdom. Some here are great with help but most are just quick to puff up their chest and put anyone down, which serves no purpose to anyone.

And some newbies come over with their chest already puffed out, looking for people to kiss their feet and be impressed because they pulled a gun on an unarmed person. Maybe somebody like that will learn a valuable lesson after receiving a verbal beat-down.

Ah, the stories I could tell. No puffy chest here. Just adult opinions. Feel free to read my posts. See how I was treated when I made a point.

No forum involving discussion of firearms, laws and rights should be considered a "sandbox".

Hmmmm? Be a mature adult? Realize that not everyone shares your opinion? If you get your feelers hurt because someone argues your opinion, then this forum is the least of your worries.

What bothers me is when a newbie gets on and asks a perfectly legetimate question and because it has been hashed out on another thread (before the newbie ever posted) some here cry out TROLL! And then there are those that feel it is their God given duty to correct and ridicule anyone who disagrees with them.

Treo I gotta tell you I'm smiling at this thread as you were the first one to crap in my cereal bowl when I got started here. If somebody has a thin skin then they really shouldn't be participating in internet forums that have strong subject matter and therefore strong opinions. Nobody here that I know of is looking to win "Miss Congeniality"!

I know people have been offended by some of my posts. That was never my intention. I make an effort to refrain from insults. Like many here I have strong opinions. I have learned much from those with different opinions. I do not care for those threads that turn into one insult after another. After a certain point I read another thread.

I'm not sure what satisfaction some people get from coming down on a potential troll. First of all if the individual is asking a honest question they deserve an honest answer. I have certainly asked questions that today seem very basic. If the person is a troll then showing them you anger just feeds them. I'm reminded of the story where Br'er Fox throws Br'er Rabbit into the briar patch. Your anger is the briar patch to Br'er Troll. For me either an honest answer or to ignore the post works well.

This board is a group of elitist children. It is a constant d**k measuring contest.

If someone posts anything that isn't flawless then the world screams troll at them.

If you hint at cooperation with LE, you are called a fascist and told to get ready for "Paypurs Phleez" like old Nazi Germany or asked if you roll over every time the government says something.

Everyone is an expert of every law in every state and if you don't do exactly what they would do, or interpret every law the way they would, then you're a moron that shouldn't have a gun. The best way to describe it is that most are never in doubt but seldom correct.

Every debate gets personal. I haven't seen one that sticks to the facts. Not one. Most threads wind up, after a while with some form of "Show me this, I'll wait. Right didn't think so". It's bad high school nonsense.

Everyone must have the last word. Posts go on uselessly forever with the last few messages winding up being the equivalent of "your mamma", "no your momma".

Heaven help you if you hint at or around anything that could label you a "sheepdog" even though I have yet to figure out exactly what defines a sheepdog on these forums. Yes, I know what a sheepdog is and what the sheepdog mentality is, but that is thrown at people in so many varying scenarios that it must be close to troll in its variety of definitions here.

The worst sin by far on these forums is that not one person I have found will admit that the Constitution is a document that left itself open for interpretation and if you don't interpret it EXACTLY as they do, you're a troll, fascist, moron or dolt. If everything was as black and white as it is represented here, there would be no need for courts.

Lastly, when was the last time someone here admitted they were wrong?

The posters, some already on this thread, seem to be some of the angriest people I have ever seen. Frankly, I think some may be abused by their spouses or didn't get enough attention as children and take out their frustrations here. It isn't that bad guys. Relax. This forum is supposed to be fun.

I'm also fairly new. Generally I agree with bigjohn. The general attitude on this forum is not helpful or welcoming. It's interesting to me that Navy and Treo both have fairly positive posts in this thread. I have observed them to be among the quickest to jump on a post as troll, absurd or outright stupid. I expect that soon I will tire of this dribble as I rarely see any usefull information. I'm confident the self-appointed forum experts will neither notice or be concerned with my absence.

Many a diaper baby on this forum. Egos, insecurity, I'm nothing without my gun, keyboard jockey types. It's to be expected on a gun forum where many are on here to boast and feel better about themselves. Learning to wade through the BS and ignore the babies (or taunt them occasionly so they can justify their AOL account and dial up modem) is an essential skill to staying sane on this forum.

I can honestly say however, that this is my favorite forum and I learn a lot despite the pretentious a-holes, mouth breathers, and knuckle draggers.

Mostly a very informative forum and a generally good mobile app for bathroom breaks. There are about 5 people on here that I scroll over there response rather than read it. If the thread response starts with "troll" tantrums and accusations it gets ignored. There is something to be learned in every thread despite the troll police and their big gulp fueled verdict.

In a lot of way's this could be a good forum. The articles on the home page are good (THR doesn't have that), The handgunlaw site is very useful (GRM doesn't have that).

Unfortunately, the wanna be experts poison the well. Anyone who doesn't follow the accepted groupthink is instantly labled a "libtard" or a facisist or a troll.

I don't forsee a change as long as the forum remains unmoderated and exists primarily as a place to sell advertising space.

Like when somebody comes onto the board to brag about pulling a gun on someone??

Or when someone logs into ask what they should do before going to court for having a loaded gun in the car and gets slammed and told they are unworthy to even own a firearm.

Or

Someone logs in to ask a question about their elegibility to purchase a firearm and gets convicted in the court of forum opinion and crucified after one post.

And THR, TFL and GRM just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger
