I think I saw my first OCer

I have said multiple times that I have not seen a real life OCer. I think that may have come to an end. I went to the local ImpactGuns to look for reloading dies, which they didn't have, so I headed over to the AR uppers they have in a glass cabinet to see if they had anything I liked. Standing by the counter was a guy with his carry gun in a kydex holster that even if he tried his shirt wouldn't cover. I tried to get a closer look, but as I tried to get a look without being obvious I got....... distracted......

When I came closer I got a good look at his belt, it was what you would expect to see on a cowboy. it had the loops holding individual cartridges going all around his waist. And they weren't even brass cases, they were nickel plated.

My "wow an OCer" became a "WOW!!!!!!"

I had to walk away.

Maybe it's just me...but what was so WOW about it that you had to walk away? Maybe I am not getting the tone of your OP...but it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

The belt looked horrible with his gun. You wear that belt with a revolver, it looks cool. You wear it with a modern semi auto it screams attention whore. Kinda like putting spurs on birkenstocks.

I see where you are coming from. On a side note, I've seen an increasing amount of decoration belts displaying fake bullets all the way around...have yet to see someone wear one though.

Yeah, in some areas, OC isn't a big deal. In others, it most certainly is. Here in Portland, I VERY rarely see an OCer "in public" (maybe twice in decades,) but indoors in gun-friendly places, more often. At gun stores people who were only concealed by having a jacket buttoned will open the jacket; at gun shows people will wear there (secured at the door) gun openly, etc.

Out in the country, it happens more. Especially in the unofficial shooting areas in the National Forest. It's just standard practice out there.

The town I went to college in in Arizona (Prescott,) OC was downright normal. Nobody would bat an eye to someone OCing in a convenience store or bank. I'd say I saw people going about daily activity OCing dozens of times in the two years I was there - not counting the times that my friends and I carried while heading out to the desert to go shooting.

Edit: And while I was writing that, I see you replied with the "wow" part. Yeah, hadn't thought of that... A western-style gun belt would look silly with a semi-auto.

I always have spurs on my sneakers, what's wrong with that? ;-)

But...there is a custom leather maker out there that actually manages to pull the whole "urban cowboy" thing together. No bullet loops, though - that's the secret:

Andrews Custom Leather
(Select "Urban Cowboy" from the left menu.)

He also has some other really nice looking leather goods.

I have yet to see an open carrier. Never seen one my entire life and I live in an open carry state. (And no I do not sit at home all day).

Yea, those look fine. He has some interesting holster ideas, like the notebook holster. Anyway, Still not getting the same wow feeling, but that's okay. :-)

I'm sure that God has asked that same question. Food for thought! Thanks!

Lol I think you replied to my signature line. The phone app doesn't separate the two very well. :-)

My wife saw all this talk about spurs and told me not to get any ideas.....
