I see a law suite coming

Until FL allows OC any display of your weapon can be considered as OC and is illegal. Did the officer over react we don't know. Not enough information for us to arm chair quarterback this one. Best reason in the world to stay in your vehicle hands on the wheel and identify that you are licensed and holding. You just never know what officer is pulling you over and what his mind set is at the time.

The officer definitely overreacted. There was no reason to escalate to swearing and yelling at the man clearly not showing any aggressive or threatening move.

I've been told that this is an old video, taken before the law regarding exposure was changed and the cop has been taken care of, you can stand down

Disagree with this part. There's definitely enough information to determine that this officer over reacted, and without cause treated this person rudely.

Partially agree with this part. Don't get out of your vehicle during a traffic stop unless instructed by the officer. Inform only if required to do so, or if asked. If asked to exit the vehicle, decision to inform may not be a bad idea depending on how you're carrying, to prevent exactly what occurred here. You don't want to surprise the officer if that can be helped. For me, very situation dependant as to whether I will inform or not, unless required by law to do so automatically.

Sorry but you are wrong. Since last year, accidental viewing of the gun because your shirt comes up, as long as there is no intentional threatening, is not a problem. And we only have to tell a LEO if we are asked during a police stop. Cop was wrong.

Disagree with this assertion. There's definitely enough information available to determine that this officer over-reacted and treated this person rudely without cause.

Haven't figured out how to capture multiple quotes (or multiple portions of quotes) in one response yet. Sorry...

Citrus County Florida Deputy Andy Cox Threatens to Shoot Concealed Carry
Licensee for Lawfully Carried Handgun & Then Arrests Him for
Accidental Exposure.
He acts like Canton Deputy Daniel Harless. Another prick.

I really see no threat there. Seems like a power trip to me. The woman looks likes she is about to fall asleep lol. It is never wise to step out of a vehicle unless you are advised to do so when you do that with even a permit it can still cause issues. I have got stopped a few times and when they ask for my DL i always just hand them the permit also and always keep my hands on the wheel that way neither party feels itchy. Looks like in this case the officer was not very professional at all and the guy should of never got out of the vehicle unless instructed to do so. I see where both parties were wrong but the thing that set this off was him exiting the vehicle and the officer did not even know the guy was armed no you don't half to tell them but for both parties to feel safe it is always advised before hand. Just my 2 sents.

Short story in regards to this kinda situation. A few years ago in the 80s when me and the wife moved from Kentucky to TN i got pulled over right at the TN line by a state trooper for a trailer light being out he was a young officer and it was obvious he had not been in the service long. Well anyways he had a k-9 unit with him and asked me and my wife if he could search my vehicle and i was like sure you can after all we have been moving for the last 2 days well anyways i think i had every gun i owned in the vehicle at the time you talk about a mess me and my wife sat on the side of the interstate for almost 2 hours just waiting for everything to check out. The wife was saying this is crazy and i told her i guess they think i am selling illegal guns or something and that was not the case at all we were moving to TN at the time. The point to the story is the young state trooper did not understand or even know what a carry permit was he had to ask another officer when they were checking my guns out. Yes sometimes protecting our amendment rights is ******** and some of the stuff we half to go threw to protect it sucks too. We sat for 2 hours all to hear you are clear to go. I looked at the wife and said welcome to TN lol Just sharing some information.

Absolutely as others have stated - here in FL we are not required to inform unless asked and as of last year inadvertent display is not a crime. Hope to see this deputy in the unemployment line and the individual detained cashing a good settlement. Definitely reminiscent of the Ohio case.

The cop threatened to kill him. I seem to feel that is an over reaction! I wonder what a court would do if I were to over react? I think they call that a terroristic threat or possibly assault with a deadly weapon. As usual the cop will get a pass.

Not always...He should be charged for violating his civil rights and be subject to whatever the statutes call for.

I put money on it that it is settled out of court before it even goes to court. Any body wanna bet with me. It appears the officer may need some anger management counseling lol

I would not argue the settlement. The officer should, at the very least loose his job...Being retired from LEO, I will try to defend them when I feel they are right but when they are wrong, I will not. This guy didn't just step over the line he ran, jumped, leaped over the line!

He was so far over the line he can't come back, in my opinion.

The evidence speaks for itself. I cannot see the Department trying to defend his actions.

Not only lose his job but have a black mark put in his Florida record. He's lost his right to be a cop here as far as I'm concerned. But knowing some places, he'll get promoted.
