I just don't get it....

I mean yeah, I've seen them.. but again they're just not my cup of tea. Neither is OD green, FDE or whatever name you want to call tan today on an AR either. I prefer mine black. I can admire them and respect them, and hell think some are just gorgeous, but I don't live anywhere near a desert or tan terrain, I live by the mountains.

Then again that probably wasn't geared towards my post.. still to each his own. :yes4:

I LOVE (I do mean love), beautiful old firearms. I inherited some gorgeous firearms from my father & grandfather; and until the early 90's I had a collection of gorgeously crafted gun worth around 20K. (Not huge but good)

I still prefer the LOOK & FEEL of a well crafted firearm with wood furniture & bluing. I LOVE to take a beautiful, artisan crafted pistol or long gun to the range.

But, that's not why I have polymer pistols & modern battle rifles. I choose more modern firearms for SD/HD & SHTF situations because they are dependable; parts & ammo are plentiful and you can easily make repairs on the go without being a certified gunsmith or having access to a lot of gunsmithing equipment.

I think the biggest reason for synthetic stocks is the way they react in inclement weather, they will not warp and affect you zero and do not require the care wood does. They make some really nice synthetic stocks that way out perform wood, great for the sportsman. Stainless steel and fiberglass are like bread and butter for the hardcore sportsman. Personally I prefer wood. I may learn to make my own stocks. I really love the look of handcrafted stocks with the finely checkered fluir'de lis checkering and high grade black walnut. It is sad that so few care to learn the trade. I have a guy that does "engraving" on stocks but uses a high speed pencil grinder and not the checkering chisels, just not the same. I love to look at the old muzzle loaders of the mid 1700's as they have a tremedous amont of handcrafted artistry! As far as AR's go, I can shoot them just the same, I want one for the spcific task of a reliable and accurate defensive carbine. They are like the Ruger 10/22, everybody makes gadgets for them! They are a proven platform. And finally, they are chambering them in more useful calibers.
