Snopes.com says the story is fiction but did appear on Craigslist for a day before taken down. The author was a home burglary victim and was venting. There is even a variation of that story from South Africa.

The phone calls to the FBI might have been a little much, but I like the idea of allowing the BG to help the community by purchasing gas and donating shoes to the homeless! I would SO love to have heard the conversation with the BG's Mamma. That might have been punishment enough.
