I don't even know how to title this sort of insanity ......

How many NY gun laws did this individual violate and which one of them, had it been enforced, would have prevented this crime? The gun grabbers keep telling us gun laws stop these things from happening. NY has some of the strictest gun laws in the land. What failed?

This. +1

Very sad and tragic. My department (I was a medic) had a policy that didn't allow CC... but they did allow us to use body armor (which sucks... royally). They stated "insurance purposes" for their (*cough* lack of) reasoning.

Hell, at this point, I would NOT run Fire/EMS around here without my CCW.

I understand it's PD's job to "secure the scene" during certain calls before Fire/EMS can even approach... but even then, we've ran PLENTY of calls where they didn't think a PD presence would be necessary and our guys/gals were assaulted upon arrival.

Gang activity is the WORST. Say a rival gang member was shot and EMS is now on scene (with or without PD, it happens)... the rival gang may try to shoot up the medics, the patient, the rig, etc. It's happened plenty of times.

At that point, would you rather just have a radio or a handgun? I'd opt for both.

My department doesn't allow us to carry either. Been a volunteer with Fire/EMS for over forty years in a rural area. Police at times are 20 to 30 minutes away.
