work at finding a carry rig that is comfortable everywhere. I decided NOT to remove my gun when I drive. What happens if, say, at the fuel station, someone carjacks you? Or does the prowl trick, openiong the right side door and snatching whatever? What happens if you're in a wreck, not hurt, and leave the car forgetting it becuase of your confusion? What about someone accosting you when, say, making a quick trip into the bank and you just "didn't bother" switching it to your waist? You are then unarmed.
ALWAYS have your carry gun ON YOUR PERSON. Any number of things can happen to separate you from your weapon.
I am a serious road cyclist, often riding all day from one place to another. When I decided to start bring a handgun along for my protection (actually, the lawful ability to be armed whilst riding is THE deciding factor for getting my Mother May I paperwork), I considered carrying the gun on the bike, in one of the bags, etc... but then began to consider what if I were somehow separated from the bike, either by an accident/upset/offroad excursion, or perhaps an assault (they WERE happening at the time up near seattle.. small groups of cyclists being waylaid by hooligans at "choke points" on bike paths, they being robbed, bikes stolen or trashed).. WOULD I have time/opportunity to retreive my handgun and present to ward off the assault? Maybe......... maybe not. Not good enough. It now constantly resides in one of the rear pockets on my riding jersey. It is ALWAYS ON MY PERSON.
Same whenever I am driving the car... I worked and found a carry rig that is comfortable whilst driving. (for me it happens to be a Bianchi IWB clip-on, at my 4 oclock. I never know its there..... but it always is. Work at finding what works for YOU to carry it ON your person. Now, perhaps having the holster there as an option for times you can't legally carry wherever you are going.. such as banks in Montana, churches in Utah, certain government facilities..... toss a jacket over the whole thing so it can't be seen from anywhere outside..... but CARRY IT ON YOUR PERSON.
