i'm not one to complain, but heres something i need to get off my chest.

last thursday I got my tax return, so I went to my favorite gun dealer and bought a New Redhawk 44mag, i've been wanting the gun for a while and since i had the money...what the hell.

so here in the great state of NY broome county to be exact, i need to take my permit to the sheriffs office with the recipt for the gun and have it put on my permit and then there is a "waiting period" until i get the ticket i then hand to the dealer and i can pick up the gun.
well the woman at the sheriffs office who is nothing more than nice, kindly tells me that the judge is out of county doing a murder trial so its going to take about 3 -4 weeks until i get the ticket. so i have to wait 3 weeks to pick up a gun i paid in full for..thats some B.S.

i don't understand why NY can't just get it together, i went through all the processing of getting my permit, background check ,5 sheets of fingerprints,$125...i'm not a felon and i hate being treated like one......

It could be worse, I guess....your local newspaper could be "publishing" on the internet your carry license information!

Hang in there, dude.

That does suck. Just another example of how the laws only hurt and make things complicated for the law abiding. If they are going to have a law like that they should have someone as a backup in cases like this. Waiting 3 weeks to get a gun you've paid for sucks.

Then again you can move to Florida! We are always looking for more law abiding gun friendly people down here. If you have your permit you walk out of the dealer's that day with your new baby. No waiting. No having it added to your permit.

Oh and we don't have that cold white stuff that falls from the sky either!

Until watching this forum, I did not realize that you guys in NY had it so tough.. It's pretty insane...

Va is gun friendly too. You're more than welcome to come on down. I'm going to the gun show this weekend and picking up an AK-47 as a birthday to myself. And all I'll have to do is fill out my paperwork and wait for the background check and then I can walk out with my gun in hand right then and there. Gotta love it!

I used to live in NY(Rockland county)and thought I had it good compared to my friends who lived in NYC where you needed lots of money and a lawyer if you wanted a permit. Had the same deal as you as paying for the gun and then getting it added to my permit and waiting for the judge to sign it. In 2002 I moved to Va. and called the local PD to find out if I had to register my guns like in NY. The guy was kind of angry that I asked saying "they're your guns and nobody needs to know anything about them". So much easier here. Got my CCW three years ago and I don't leave home without it.

That sucks big time here in Ohio if you pass the back ground check you can walk out that day with your new gun. and we are a lot closer then Fl. if you would like to move. :pleasantry:

In Idaho, having a concealed carry permit, they don't even have to call it in. From the time I decide what I want, and the time I walk out the door with it is 15 to 20 minutes.

Love that quote Brainchild!
Colorado is a great place to be! We have that white stuff when ya want it and sunshine when you need it. The sun does shine on weapons buying here. Can get the check in minutes, or catch a show and find what you need from a private person. Leave with a pretty peice and the rounds to go with it. Stop in for an OCDO BBQ in may, you'll be moving here in june!

Ditto that. Come on down to Florida! Gun friendly, carry friendly, no snow, no emissions testing, no state income tax. We also have a pretty decent diversity of stuff - huge cosmopolitan cities in the south, theme parks in the middle, some awesome rednecks on the north part and beaches on both sides. Just be prepared and pay attention to the news for several months out of the year. Our only real problems are the hurricanes and the heat, and you know when they're coming way ahead of time.

Toreskha,
What're you trying to say here? And wasn't it one of those Kimber guys that was bragging about going surfing on Thanksgiving Day?
