How's the crime in your town?

It is getting worse here seems like anyway. A man was found stabbed to death Wednesday morning in the park where I sometimes take my dog for walks. Guess I will not be going there from now on. Even after my CHCL arrives I don't want to put myself in a bad place if I don't have to. I don't walk with a handbag or anything else that puts me at greater risk of getting robbed, usually even when going to the store I will just carry money or bank card in my pocket. So annoying because I love a really good purse

I think its the same everywhere. You just have to be aware of your surroundings and try your best not to be a victim. I always have weapon with me. Not that I'm scared I just know whats it like out there.

In Iowa property crimes and violent crimes in urban areas are down and has been down over a period of several years. Although, it doesn't always seem so. In Waterloo it certainly seems to be increasing.

I live in a rural area 11 miles north east of the only large town in the county (3800 pop.). Rural crime is actually up state wide but compared to metropolitan areas in other states it is probably negligible. Police protection in most of the really rural areas is almost nonexistent. One and sometimes two deputy sheriffs patrol outside of town in an area of about 500 square miles. If you need help in a criminal situation, a medical emergency, or with a fire, you had better be prepared to help yourself. Quite a bit can happen in the 20 to30 minutes that it takes help to arrive. It's a good thing that a large majority of rural folk are armed and self sufficient.

The closest "LE" is a part timer in town, a good distance away. Nearest "city" is 55 miles away. County sheriffs are 20+ minutes away, if we're lucky. Same for an ambulance. Hospital is 25 minute drive.

We're out so far that we can't get a home phone with anonymous call rejection, if that helps give an idea as to how far.

Not that I am complaining, as I prefer to be out here, where I don't have to interact with people, unless I choose to. Makes life simpler.

I can't recall last time there was a crime out here...
