"I still see no reason why any manufacturer would make assault weapons that aren't for the military or police. And why are there mags that hold hundreds of bullets...what possible purpose do they have? I'm asking not to be snarky but because I want to know how people who are not in favor of gun control can help a non-gun person understand."
I own what the question erroneously refers to as "assault weapons" because the National Firearms Act of 1934 has quite effectively, and quite unconstitutionally, repressed my God-given right to own a real assault weapon.
I resent that my parents' and grandparents' generations weren't more protective of the real reasons our Founding Fathers included the 2nd Amendment in our Constitution, and that they didn't pass down through relentless, repetitive, and consistently reinforced instruction, the traditions of individual liberty the 2A was intended to protect for perpetuity. I fear strongly that our current living generations are getting ready to pay dearly for their oversights in that regard, as many Americans, even on gun sites such as this one, are woefully ignorant about what the 2nd Amendment really means. Hint: It wasn't intended to protect your right to hunt for food, or to engage in sporting events or competitions. It wasn't intended to give the government the authority to force you to ask for
its permission to buy, own, carry or use a weapon in defense of self, others or community/country. In fact, it was expressly written to
prohibit government from controlling your God-given right to protect yourself
from the government, and as such, the very notion that government should be able to control your access to weapons is in and of itself the undeniable proof that you will one day
need them for the purposes the 2nd Amendment was written to protect your right to employ them for.
That said, and as heartfelt and honest as it is, the following is the best answer I've seen in this thread yet:
Thanks for that GB-Boater. I hadn't seen that one before. Great link.
Everyone who claims to support the 2nd Amendment should not only watch/listen to every second of that video, they should incorporate its message(s) into their own understanding and expressions of why they support the 2nd Amendment from here on out, and why they will fight to oppose any moves to weaken its force of law upon the
law-makers of this country. And if you're not willing to fight to oppose such tyranny, then you don't really support the 2nd Amendment. The truth may be uncomfortable for some to accept, but that is the bottom line fact of the matter. Any other position will eventually lead to total disarmament of the American People, and our Founders knew it.
