How to Pick the Best Zombie Pistol

Skip the zombie crap. The most likely scenario is a breakdown of general law and order when the country runs out of other people's money. The takers (aka Obama voters) will still want their cookies when the government bleeds us givers (taxpayers) dry and we run out of cookies for the govt to hand out.
First, get out of the cities because resources will run dry fastest based on population. Also, don't expect the police to be there to protect your family...they will be home protecting their own.
Next, have a plan and a bug-out bag with food and supplies for at least 2 to 3 days until you can assess the situation and find a secure location with shelter and water. You should be scoping this out NOW.
From this vantage point, you can make decisions for future moves.

Just remember, the country can survive 4 more years of Obama, but cannot survive supporting his voters forever.

Enough already - I agree....

The zombie garbage was cute the first 500 times, now it's gone way beyond stupid. Buy practical not ridiculous. No 100 round mags, they just weigh you down. Try taking one to a tactical class, you'll be laughed out. Think smart, don't think made for TV movie.

I have to agree, enough is enough.

Zombies are Hollywood. Social parasites rioting; gangs assaulting, killing, and raping; criminals mugging are reality. YMMV.

Find a handgun that can inflict medulla-oblongata damage and stock up on regular magazines and lots of ammo. Then practice, practice, practice.

Remember, your handgun is there so you can fight your way to your "patrol" rifle. (Which also should have plenty of spare magazines and lots or ammo.)

When the riots start, it is too late to plan. So start now.

If you are going to bug-out, then find a place and claim it now. Then secure it for when you need it. Stock it and double-secure it. So it will be there when you need it. Bury it if you have to. Then check on it once a month.

Zombies are a metaphor for things going bad. What happens when the welfare system breaks down either through infrastructure or financial reasons and all those folks with no food get restless.
Kind of like zombies roaming around looking for food?
Still pretty much the same answer as far as necessary guns whether handguns or something larger.

I'm firm believer in the 9mm and stand by it in any SHTF scenario for multiple reasons. It has a high magazine capacity, puts a decent sized hole in you (larger with hollow points, has a very mild recoil for easy follow up shots, and is probably the world's most common handgun round. In a you versus the world scenario you want to be able to scavenge as much as possible and dish out as much punishment as quickly and accurately as possible.

Okay, so we won't call it "zombie apocolypse". Let's call it civil unrest with rioting, looting, home invasions, etc... Now I bought the Ruger P95DC 9mm. Why? 9mm ammo is the cheapest to buy other than .22's; the P95 came with two 15 rd. double stack mags; in researching pistols that would except extended mags, the P95 did just that; and the 30 rd. mags I purchased from Sportsman's Guide were in a set of 3, and I only paid $60.95 for all 3 shipped to my house! To my delight, I can get 35 rds in each of those 30 rd. mags! No misfeeds, no problems whatsoever! So, with one in the pipe, two 15 rd. mags, and three 35 rd. mags, I can put 136 rounds down the barrel before I have to reload bullets into a magazine! I just shoot and change mags! Bought them for the great price, and for target practice mainly, so I didn't have to keep reloading magazines. I'll shoot 136 rounds for a day of practice, clean the gun, and reload the mags. Glad I bought the Ruger, and the extended mags. And it doesn't add any noticeable weight either. The gun balances quite well with the extended mags. I might buy three more in the future. As long as I don't have any problems with the gun, which by the way is built like a tank!; I won't be afraid to run 2-300 rds through it in one practice session! Oh.... And this is my carry gun. Some folks seem to think they are too big, or heavy. I carry it everyday, and I'm quite comfortable with it.

typical 9mm ammo is 40 rds to the lb. The G17 weighs but 25 ozs empty. if you "dont notice" the change in ballance caused by hanging another 1/2 lb of ammo under the gun, I'd say it's cause you don't gunhandle much. I notice if a grain of sand is making my slide move a hair slower than normal. :-) It takes TIME to get hits, especially if the targets are using cover, widely spread apart, dodging, in bad light, shooting back, etc. No way in hell are you going to be able to just stand there, in the open, and survive needing to fire more than a dozen rds, (probably taking 6 seconds or more) except by pure luck, when people are shooting at you. If you DO have cover, you can swap mags, quite easily. So, not only are the extended mags not worth the price (and the risk of malfunction with EFFECTIVE ammo (ie, jhp's) the double stack mag isn't worth the additional "bulge" of ccw problem, the gun's butt being too large for petite hands, etc.

Actually, I do gunhandle much. Every weekend in fact. Which is why I bought the extended mags in the first place. Once I've shot the three of them, and the two 15 round mags. I'm generally good with my practice session, and then I clean the gun up, and reload my mags for the next shoot. I still practice my shooting drills with mag changes, and shoot and move engagements. But for general drills, I use the 30 rd. mags to keep from having to reload so often. But the balance of the P95 is awesome with the 30 rounders, and I don't notice much of a weight issue. My P95 isn't just a polymer gun either. It has a stainless slide, barrel and other internals. So it is heavier than the Glock and other poly-only guns. But it doesn't seem to effect my ability to hit what I'm shooting at?

What if he can get 4 hits in 3/4ths of a second? Or let's say he's slow that day and gets 5 in a second. There was some fool on here claiming the ability to do that recently.

Oh wait, that was you. Now all of a sudden it takes TIME to get hits.

maybe you don't KNOW it, moron, but 3/4 second for 5 shots is STILL time, and 30 hits is still going to take many seconds, with lots of enemy shots coming at you every second

Too many scenarios and variables with your arguement trainor. Inside or outside, distance between you and bad guys, how many bad guys?, back to the weight issue: 1/2 lb. of ammo vs. a 12 ga. shotgun? Which would be heavier, the 30 rd. mag. in a 9mm pistol, or the 12 ga. shotgun? Your argument about weight has no bearing on shooting accuracy of an individual who trains with that 30 rd. mag? Especially a 1/2 lb? And quit calling people "moron"! I'm sure that hurt Kerb's feelings? And quit making assumptions about gun handling/shooting skills/cover vs. no cover/time to hits ratio/ etc...! What are you some kind of psychic? You know everything, about every detail of every deadly force scenario? If you read my original post again, you will see that I bought the 30 rd. mags primarily for target shooting. I never said anything about CHL or carrying my pistol with the 30 rd. mag? I just said it was my everyday carry gun. And since the topic was "How to pick the best Zombie Pistol", is it really gonna matter if you can't conceal that 30 rd. mag. if it's a zombie apocalypse? And when did zombies start shooting back? I hope you are as smart as you think you are, so you can find your way back under that rock you came from. Try reading the topic heading next time there genius, before you try to enlighten us with your wizardry!
