How to disassemble the recoil spring guide assembly in a Star PD

I have decided to get my 34 year old Star PD back into working order.
I found someone who makes the recoil buffer and I have purchased a
recoil spring from Wolff springs.

Now, how do I get the recoil guide apart? Looking at the exploded
view, it looks like the ends unscrew. However, I can't get either end
to come loose. So, how to I get the ends to unscrew?

Anyone with experience and/or advice?

I'm guessing there is no hex-wrench socket. Is there a seam where it looks like it should come apart? It might just need some WD-40 to loosen it up.
