How Often do you rotate your EDC ammo?

I've been looking around and I'm probably just not finding this answer but I'll ask anyway.

I've been carrying ever since I've gotten my State Permit to do so. My 3 carry guns are always chambered and ready to go so all I have to do is pull it out of the safe and holster it. In the 6 or so years I've been carrying I've only changed my carry rounds maybe once or twice... Not to say I do not practice with the same type of round I carry in the gun, but I usually leave my carry mags loaded and use other mags to practice with. Do you rotate ammo more frequently, and why?

I have carry ammo, Fiocchi Extrema 230gr 45 xtp and practice ammo 230 gr fmj cheap stuff.

I always bring one of my loaded clips with good stuff to the range and run it through the gun. I do this 1) because it's a little hotter than the cheap stuff so slightly different recoil, 2) I make sure my gun still likes my carry ammo and 3) I like the feeling that the ammo I carry is constantly being updated with fresh stuff.

Personally I think the third reason is more of a psychological reason than a tactical one but hey whatever works right.

the ones in the mag are probably ok but the rounds chambered i would cycle through during range time......i was just thinking about that the other day. each time clear my weapon for dry practice the chambered round i will dump in a box to use as target practice at my next range visit and will insert a fresh round in the top of the mag when i relaod the gun..or being as of now i'm using the same ammo either way but still will not keep rechambering a round once it's been chambered once the next time it's chambered it will be at the range and fired off.....
when i get some hornady or speer gold dot i will be sure to keep the chambered rounds for the range but keep the mag ammo as carry and the cheaper rounds as target except the collection of chambered rounds i empty out for dry practice.....that way i'm not reloading the same chambered ammo more than twice and chancing a fail to fire .....not that i think a few times chambered with that kind of round will make a difference but visually look at it and see if it's loose or sunken before reinserting it
stay safe .....i'm going to try to not rechamber rounds more than twice
i have two mags for my gun but it might be good to get a third mag for carry only that way i will have a loaded mag ready and can just add the extra round to the mag as i go......and still carry two mags to the range and leave the good carry ammo mag loaded and left at home and reinserted after practice and use the other two mags for range time....just stuff i'm thinking about myself lately as well

What I found that works really well . I know in my semi not my revolver the bullets get filthy idk why . You can get some mothers mag polish and have at it . Works awesome makes the slick run great and cleans the dirt off ... Five bucks for the polish and very little elbow work with a cotton t shirt .

i use the same ammo for targets as i would for defense. granted, i don't buy any fancy ammo, as I don't really believe the hype/marketing. i mean yeah, a hollow point will make a bigger hole in a home defense situation, but unless i suck at placement, the net effect will be the same.

i take my eight fifteen round (.40) clips to the range twice a month.

my logic being, if i shoot the same gun with the same ammo all the time, i will know how it responds all the time in every situation, and i will know what to expect out of it in every situation. i don't want/need my brain (consciously or subconsciously) to be compensating/adjusting/etc at time of need. i want it focused on the task at hand.

That is your answer and deserves repeating as the quote in this reply.

hi kelcarry so you think it's a good idea to keep any once chambered ammo separate and use at your next range visit? i'm thinking it may be good idea........i'm off to a gun and knife show just to window shop bbl
have a great day
