How often do you clean your EDC and why?
Once I get enough responses, I will post the appropriate answer and give reasons...This is an educational thread for new and semi-experienced carriers.

I disassemble and clean my guns after about 250 - 300 rounds. Of course I wipe them down after every practice session.

Got it...thanks.

To answer the question, my carry gun gets cleaned after every trip to the range.

I clean mine every 250-500 rounds. I like to run my firearm hard to find what condition will be the ''breaking point''. I shot in about 25 to 30 degree weather, I had no failure to feeds/extracts, no stove pipes or any jams at all.

My friend's Beretta stove piped and double fed, I carry a M&P 9

Luckily, I get to make it to the range weekly for 50-100 rounds. I clean it after each range visit.

Don't fire as often, but this is my cleaning schedule, too...after firing.

Drum roll.................................And the answer is WEEKLY

There is a reason the military has you clean your guns sometimes daily but at least weekly.
1- 1st thing you do is unload it........So you can't be that arsehat in the paper that says"I didn't know the gun was loaded"
2- By cleaning the gun once a week,,,,,,,you have to work the action. The more you work the action, the more familiar you are with both its operation and nuances.
3- The time to find out the gun is not functioning properly, is not in a gunfight. Cleaning it makes you look it over to see if sights are loose, grips are loose or stress cracks are starting....... And please don't tell me this doesn't happen to YOUR (glock, sig, colt, barretta or springfield) or whatever hammer you are carrying.
4-Last but not least redneck math tells me my EDC gun gets more wear and tear than the other 20-40 guns I have. It gets handled more, is subjected more to the elements and overall takes more abuse than my other guns. So with the cost of a decent gun running over $500.00, you want to protect your investment.

FACT....Cleaning your gun at least once a week MAKES YOU SAFER.....

I clean, and by that I mean deep clean brushes and all, after I fire the weapon. For standard carry I inspect it weekly to make sure there is oil where there should be, no bullet set back, no bad damage from the gun from whatever may happen. Then I clean the dust and debris out of the gun in the grooves and the stupid wrist strap area. Then oil if necessary with a gun wipe and put back together after doing a complete function check.

By the way I now have a Glock 19 Gen 4 and a HK USP Compact that I do this to.

When I shoot it or when it accumulates enough dust, pocket fuzz etc to warrant cleaning. Yes, I DO carry my BUG in my back pocket, and pistole de boudoir in the pocket of my bathrobe.

Everytime I shoot and every Monday I do a light cleaning, function check and change magazines. Every three months I put fresh ammo in the magazine.

I clean after ever range trip. Which for me I weekly. I do a detail strip down every month. My carry ammo gets replaced yearly, unless I notice anything wrong with it. I also do a spring check every 6 months for my carry mags.

I don't do to much about it besides that. If I forget to do it once or twice don't really worry about it.

I may be out there but.....
Every night maintenance: drop the mag, check the chamber and cycle the action.
Once a week take the slide off and look for lint etc

I rotate the round in the chamber daily.
It is goes to the range, it is field stripped and cleaned after a range visit regardless of the number of rounds..

Now my EDC is a full size 1911..

While at home it is often in the wood shop and out in the tractor with me. And when that happens it gets wiped down and or cleaned as needed...

After my time in the Corps I firmly believe in a clean and lightly lubed weapon... But it is not white quetip clean.. Grey maybe. But not white....

Once a week I will clean the lint out of it, make sure it's lubed, that's about it unless it goes to range. Try to
Make out 2 a month. No matter the round count, it gets cleaned after every trip.

I work and play in dirty environments, I blow mine out each nite and clean it every Sunday nite, even if it hasn't been fired. And I fire the rounds I carry about every 2 months to keep them fresh.
