How many spare rounds do you carry?

If I'm carrying a single stack semi-auto I'll sometimes carry a spare mag. If I'm carrying a revolver I'll usually have a speed strip. If I'm carrying a higher capacity semi-auto - such as the Hi Power I'm currently wearing - I usually go with just the magazine in the gun.

Enough, I Hope

My Primary is a Model 58 S&W 41 Magnum, I carry 3 speedloaders for that, My Back up is a Walther PP 22LR which feeds and very accurately places Stingers. I carry 1 spare mag for that....24 rounds of 41 Magnum and 20 rounds of 22
OR, on occasion, I carry a Para Ordnance 38 Super, built from a kit in the early days of their being available. 18 rounds of 125 grain Silvertips + 2 magazines in reserve....54 rounds
My wife carries a 4" 686 and 2 speedloaders...21 rounds
In the trunk of my car is an M1A and 3 Magazines....60 rounds
In over 25 years of carrying I have fired the 41 1 time and pulled the 38 super twice in social encounters.
Going by that I carry WAY WAY too many rounds.... I'll not be reducing the round count until or unless the weight gets to be more than I can take....
I live in a Rural area, The neighbors pickups have rifles in the rifle racks. Very little violent crime here, But there's always a chance, IF something happens help will probably show up after the fact to clean up the mess.....Better safe than sorry

I carry four six round magazines of 45ACP for my Para Slim Hawg. Sounds like a like but it's not. Most people carry 2 spare mags that are anywhere from 10 to 15 rounds each.[/FONT]

Texas Sheepdog

I carry one 8 round mag on my belt facing forward so that my left index finger can guide the mag in to the well. I carry 2 extra 8 round mags in my fanny pack, which I always carry with me in the car. I keep three extra mags in my console. I believe that is a total of 48 rounds.

In addition to the 15+1 I run with in my EDC Glock 19, I carry two spare 15-round magazines in my Blackhawk magazine carrier. Too much, some will say. Those few ounces in weight might make all the difference in any force on force situation. Better that slight burden than the greater burden of wishing in hindsight that I had better prepared in my responsibilities toward my family and those around me.

Two mags to fight with, one to exit with.

Sometimes I only have one spare mag. I do always carry a spare in case something happens with the magazine or the fight exceeds parameters of the "average" fight.

I carry no extra mag, no extra rounds. I do not live in Helmond Province. They are bullets not viagra!

Carry Rounds

My XD-40 is loaded with 12+1 and then I carry a spare 12-round magazine. I tend to think that if I can't handle the trouble with half a box of ammo, then I'm probably screwed anyway.

For me it would depend on the firearm. A single stack semi-auto like a 1911, I would carry at least an extra mag. For a revolver, I would carry an extra reload. For a double stack semi-auto, I don't think it's that important but for my SR9c I have a 10rd magazine in the gun and I keep the full size 17rd magazine (w/o the sleeve) in my pocket. That's 27+1 rounds of 9mm. While I don't think a case of self defense would even use a quarter of the rounds, it is nice to know that if SHTF, I have something substantial to work with instead of having to get back home just for more ammo.

12+1 in the firearm (used to be 11, as I used a 12-round magazine with a snap-cap in the top position, no round chambered, but I have been dissuaded from that folly,) one 15-round magazine spare. I keep different ammunition in the spare than loaded. "Self-defense" rounds loaded (varies based on what I buy, right now it's Hydra-Shock,) plain (aka: cheap) FMJ in the spare. (I figure the most likely reason I'd be shooting more than 12 rounds on a random day is a spur-of-the-moment trip to the range, so I might as well bring cheap ammo for that possibility.)

I carry as many as I can. This means that sometimes it's just the 17 rounds in the Glock, sometimes it's one or two extra mags for up to another 34. Sometimes these are in mag pouches, sometimes in pockets, and sometimes just in the door of the car on roadtrips. It really depends on what I'm wearing, where I'm going, and what I'm doing.

In the summer, I carry 4 extra magazines for my Colt Officer's ACP . Two magazines in a hip pocket carrier that looks like a wallet.
Two single pouches on my belt.
In cooler weather I carry more magazines in vest or coat pockets.
I also have a dual IWB that works well when carried IWB since it is wide enough to nat make a hard spot as a single IWB seems to do.

I believe the question was how many rounds do I carry not how many mags, so, I carry one round in the chamber and 5 extra rounds in the mag. Occasionally I'll carry an extra mag.

8 round mag in the 1911 plus two 8 round mags on the belt.

So thats like, 3 * 8 = about, carry the 2, add the a, well is it 43.2 rounds ;-)

If 24 rounds of .45 ACP don't get me out of trouble, I brought the wrong gun.

During the summer, I carry 2 extra mags for my XD40SC, the carry mag holds 9 and the spares hold 12 = 33rds.
The rest of the year I carry 2 extra mags for my 1911, they all hold 7 = 21.
I use a double mag carrier for both guns, carried on my 8 o-clock, with the bullets facing rearward. I always carry two extra mags for a combat reload and in case I need to clear a stoppage. I also carry a clip knife on each side and always have a flashlight and a multitool, so any more than 2 extra mags would just be unnecessary weight. If I ever landed in court, I think that I could justify carrying 2 extra mags to a jury.

My wife carries a Ruger LC9 most of the time. She wears skirts a lot so she carries it in a thigh holster, but she also has a pair of UnderTech compression shorts that have a holster and a mag pouch built in. She carries one extra mag so 7x2=14.

My OC holster has a pouch for one spare magazine that holds 10 rds. My mag pouch holds two more of the same. My Kholster IWB conceal holster does not have a place for a spare mag. So, when concealing, I carry a total of 30 rds between my pistol and my spare magazines. When OCing, that jumps to a total of 40. My mag pouch is carried on my left hip, my conceal and OC holsters are carried on my right side, slightly forward.
