I've been doing some research and have not yet found my answer. I am from New York and have a CCW for dutchess county and am trying to find out how many pistols I can have on my permit. Does anyone have any info on this??

Strange ... listed? Weird Country y'all live in up yonder.

Sorry, Since I live in a free State, I do not know what your State says.
I usually only carry 3 to church, but up to 7 if I think some Deacons might forget theirs at home ...

In NYS there is no limit to the number of guns you can register on your permit. Your permit has room for five guns on the back. When you acquire more than that you are issued another card. One instructor that works with me has 99 handguns. He has 21 ID cards. Just make sure the license you carry matches whatever gun you're carrying.

This is absolutely correct advice.

There is no limit as to the number of pistols a permit holder can own. This was explained at the class I took prior to getting the permit. Of course, each must be registered. Some of the guys at my club own close to twenty. In Erie County, anything after pistol # five or six is listed on a second card.

How many can you carry and are they all registered to you?

You can carry as many as you want so long as they are listed on your license and you have your license with you.

In New York State, there is no limit to how many you can own. In eastern Suffolk County, where we no longer use the paper cards with an ink stamp, you can fit at least 10 guns on the back before they have to shrink the font size to fit more. My personal goal is to make the reader use a magnifying glass to read them all--or get two cards. ;)

Although I have no personal experience with it, rumor has it that Schenectady County has a 3 gun limit. There is no limit for NYS but counties have leeway ie.-training requirements, restrictions, amendment processing, etc. Perhaps they can limit # of guns.

Correct me if I am wrong but if I remember correctly when reading thru NY laws if you are "In possession" of more than 5 firearms you are considered to be selling them and can be charged. This is not to say you can't own more than 5 but can't be walking around with more than 5.

That's only a rumor. No provision of NYS PL A400 may be arbitrarily altered by any county or municipality as the licensing law stands notwithstanding (in spite of) any local or municipal law. If a county wants to limit the number of firearms one can own they must codify it into NYS Penal Law. That requires passage in the dem controlled assembly (which has been tried and defeated... even the dems rejected it) and the GOP controlled Senate (who won't hear of it at all). Thank God many dems in NYS are avid shooters and hunters.

PANZ... Good catch... that's pretty close.

NYS PL 265.03(2) - A person is guilty of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree when such person possesses five or more firearms. (C Felony)

However, numerous exemptions to this law exist. For example the following exemption exists for handguns.

NYS PL 265.20(a)(3) - Exemptions. Section 265.03 swhall not apply to possession of pistols or revolvers by a person to whom a license has been issued under section 400.00 or 400.01 of the NYS Penal Law.

This means that if you have a handgun permit there is no limit to the number of handguns you can have and you are exempt from prosecution as long as you have a NYS permit. There are similar exemptions for rifles/shotguns. The law was put there in 1974 as a "catch-all" but has rarely been used.

I was told that on your first permit card you can list 5 guns and 10 on each card after that.
No limit on the number of permit cards that I have heard.
The computer only prints 5 listings on a side.

This is a false statement..... I am in Schenectady county and currently have 5 on my permit...... with aanother to be added within days. Can't wait to get my new S&W Governor:biggrin:

Sorry. Can't help. I'm in S.C. I don't need a permit for any of my weapons.
I feel for you.
Don't feel too bad. Try legally sitting at the bar with your gun. NY may require registration but they don't require permit renewal. It's valid for life. 1.3 million CCW permits in NYS. How many in SC? What happens if you go to renew your permit and they say no? NY has no crazy limitations on banks, bars, restuarants, hospitals, doctor offices, mental health facilities, public transportation, government buildings, glove compartments, churches, number or frequency of gun purchases. The only place in NYS that's off-limits is a school.

Repeat after me... Believe the myth, believe the myth....

I thought that Gov't buildings (state, county, local) were all no carry zones. Along with mental health facilities. I could be wrong but I thought I remember that from my unrestricted carry class.
